Pink Floyd Represented at Olympic Closing Ceremonies
Posted August 12th, 2012 by PFO Staff

So there was no surprise Pink Floyd reunion, but Nick Mason performed ‘Wish You Were Here’ as expected along with Ed Sheeran, and included Mike Rutherford (Genesis) and Richard Jones (The Feeling).
The guitar arrangement was perhaps a little under-whelming, but it was still nice to see Nick on stage and Pink Floyd represented at the show.
The tight-rope walker (pictured above) was an homage to the Wish You Were Here album cover, and very cool to watch.

What did you think? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
UPDATE: Audio from the performance (Audio Only)

Just the gesture, as the performance was awful except for what was on above.
anything by the floyd is always great.but it sounded better if rog.and dave were there with mason what shame.grow-up rich man not getting along what a pity.this was a major show GUYS> the others miss out stones and led zep.these are all powerhouse rockers here what a let down.It will never happen again you miss the boat guys.
Miss them real badly
such a shame the GIL wasnt there ,it needed his style and punch .Nick played a good one :)
What an exceptional and unique venue this could have been for the remaining three Floyds. Disappointing that differences can’t be put aside, if only temporarily, so as to leave yet another fantastic impression & interpretation of their collective works.
You are [not] young and life is [not] long
And there is [no] time to kill today
Time’s moments are ticking away…
Come on people, enough with the reunion talk. The boys put things aside for Live8 and THAT was their reunion, period.
I mean really, who do you want them to be…..KISS, the band that never goes away and is always on their “farewell” tour?
Roger pi$$ed off David to an extreme and to this day, David has yet to totally forgive him. Think about that for a bit…what or how much anger Roger has generated in David to act this way?
If Roger’s ego had been kept in check, Rick never would have been tossed out of the band right before The Wall tour in 1980 (Roger allowed him to stay on as a session musician for the tour) and Nick wouldn’t have left the band during The Final Cut recordings. Think of the type of douchbag Roger must have been back then.
As you can tell, I do blame Roger for breakin up this fantastic band much like I blame Yoko for breaking up the Beatles. In both cases, just think of what might have been.
Wish Roger and David were there too
Thought Ed Sheeran did a good version & remember what big shoes he had to fill guys!!!!! I love anything Floyd – we can all wish on a prayer that they will get back together but I don’t think I will see it in my lifetime – life is short so be gratefull for the fact that we had the pleasure of such a great band in the first place! What a boring day it would be without being able to pres play on my iPod !
HI WELL I THINKS THAT WAS BEAUTIFULL SONG , I MAKES ME HAPPY TO SEE NICK, BUT WEEL THEY WAS A SHORT TIME FOR TO PLAY . FOR ME THE BEST ……
Does it really surprise anyone that David and Roger didn’t perform? Roger just finished a huge tour and David supposedly is working on some new material and I’m sure quite busy. And for those who continue to bring up their past relationship…please drop it. They never were and never will be best friends, but they do respect each other and have played together over the past few years. I’m willing to bet that they will find themselves together again if the right situation presents itself. As far as Nick goes…..more power to him. He loves this kind of stuff and I hope he continues to make himself available.
PINK FLOYD PARA SEMPRE.
It was really great to see Nick drumming there. The song performance was, well… it was still far better than this awfull chill-version of “Wish you where here”, but it poorly missed out so much – not only the solo-guitar.
But I alrady was extremly glad to hear “Eclipse” when the fire was lighted. This was a wonderful moment, it really was!
And this homage to the cover? Cool for me :-)
I wonder what Dave and Roger said to this performance. Anyone read anything about his?
I thought Ed Sheeran completely butchered Wish You Were Here, but that’s just my opinion. :)
