In an effort to keep the homepage fresh with content, I’ve decided to have 1 new video featured here each week, in addition to any news stories. The videos can be ANYTHING, as long as it’s related to Pink Floyd in some way and can be embedded here. Our first video comes from “The Women of Aviation”. Recently, Pink Floyd allowed them to use the song “Learning to Fly” in a video that summarizes the Women of Aviation Worldwide Week. If you have a video you’d like to nominate for next week, please email us.

The new book “TRIBUTE: The Dark Side of the Mood”” is the true story of an industry professionals experience as a Pink Floyd tribute artist. Orfanos met someone who stole files directly from Pink Floyd while conducting repairs for the band, during the Pulse tour – it was insisted to use their original tracks for their own band.

It should be a very interesting read, indeed. Here are excerpts from the press release:

Berklee Professor victimies Pink Floyd in the biggest act of music piracy in history: Musician/Author Arthur Orfanos announces the release of his first narrative/nonfiction book Tribute: The Dark Side of the Mood.

Boston-area musician Arthur Orfanos releases this fascinating true story which exposes the biggest act of music piracy in the history of rock and roll—Tribute: The Dark Side of The Mood (ISBN: 978-0615536606, Trade paperback, 324 pp, 6 x 9 $18.55) available at Amazon.com, Themood.us, and other online bookstores.

When a Berklee College of Music professor (and Kurzweil Employee) is called in to conduct emergency repairs to Pink Floyd’s equipment during the world-famous Pulse tour, he seizes the opportunity to steal their files, pirating the most recognized sound effects and backing tracks in rock and roll history.

As told by Jon Carin – “I remember the incident well—we caught them red-handed in the act.”

With the point and click of a mouse, copying and transferring files can be completed in moments. Modern technology and tools such as: the iPod, Blackberry, and OEM software are commonplace. Identity theft, internet fraud, and P2P file sharing are issues which also vastly familiar in today’s world: no one is ever completely safe. For Pink Floyd fans and music enthusiasts who have the passion for truth, this controversial story is now revealed.

Tribute: The Dark Side of The Mood is the first and only book on this subject. The author presents an educational journey of life lessons which focus on the highest level of music piracy—more than just a story about life as a musician in a tribute band, exposing a colossal theft that millions of Pink Floyd fans were kept in the dark about—until now.

A forthcoming DVD/Blu-ray documentary will trace the creation of Pink Floyd’s 1975 release Wish You Were Here, with new interviews from Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason, along with archival footage with the late Richard Wright.

Wish You Were Here, cited by both Wright and Gilmour as their favorite Pink Floyd album, went straight to No. 1 in both the UK and America — despite initially receiving mixed reviews, likely because it followed the group’s legend-making Dark Side of the Moon. Eventually, Wish You Were Here would be named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 greatest albums of all time.

The documentary focuses on the project’s theme of absence, and the spectral presence of former band member Syd Barrett — who famously made an unexpected visit Abbey Road during the recording. That moved Pink Floyd to create “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” which both opens and closes the album. That decision to split “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” into two sections, the film reveals, became the catalyst for the album’s successful completion.

The Story of ‘Wish You Were Here’ is due June 26 from Eagle Rock Entertainment. Pre-orders start on June 1.

Bonus material includes Waters and Gilmour performing excerpts from Wish You Were Here. Also featured are talks with sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson, guest vocalist Roy Harper, front cover “burning man” Ronnie Rondell and others involved in the creation of the album. In addition, original recording engineer Brian Humphries revisits the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios to illustrate aspects of the songs’ construction.
