Hmm this is interesting. Makes him seem a little less "tragic" in this light. Do you have the link to the source of these quotes?

Yeah... it means Syd isn't special anymore.... not in the SOYCD case, but on the other hand, I'm happy that Syd wasn't mentally ill.
Roger Waters is insistant that Syd was (since 1967/8) schyzophrenic (sp?).
And what about the wierdness that occured at Abbey Road in 1975? When he was trying to brush his teeth by keeping the brush still and jumping up and down? That's not the behavior of a sane person.

Listen to us. :Oo: A great man, it has been said was not ill and we are disapointed? What is wrong with us?
I change my original statement, SOYCD was written about Syd, regardless of if he was a lost soul it was still about Syd.
I am ashamed. :sleepy:

Syd retreated from the rock scene early on...had no desire to revisit it. He moved on to other things that interested him more.....painting, gardening, etc. He opted for a very simple existance, and apparently had no trouble just being in his own company.
That's not to say he was a total recluse or hermit, either. He may have appeared to be, certainly to the invasive media and rude "would-be" fans. That was upsetting to him, I'm sure....or at the very least, annoying. He was seen out and about around town often, bicycling and shopping, and was apparently very popular with the local kids, whom he would joke around with. This was mentioned in that same interview that the above quotes were taken from, a few weeks after Syd passed.
When I read through that interview, I felt a little better in the aftermath of Syd dying. I especially liked that bit about Syd cutting up with the local kids. I thought that was very cool, and it presented a great latter-day picture of what Syd must've been like, if you had the fortune of knowing him.

I wish I could've shaken his hand, and said "Thank you", without mentioning "Pink Floyd, Syd or Music". Just "Thank you" in passing...
Thank you, Syd.
Thank you, Syd.

I'm pretty sure 70% of the rumors we all heard about Syd, like the teeth brushing thing, are made up. I'm sure he had a period of depression and instability in the late 60's and early 70's, but not from schizo, more likely from too many drugs and being burned out on the rock and roll world.
