My old room mate told me that during a concert, Roger Waters saw a guy sitting in the front row and the guy was having a great time so when Roger Waters noticed this, he spit on him. Is this true? and if so, was their any explaination for this?? ???
the guy probably had a i love gilmour t shirt on
:D :D :D
:D haha that would do it!
It was during the last date of the Animals tour, in Montreal stadium, July 1977. Roger's dislike about performing in such great venues finally gave out and this is when he spat on the face of that hapless fan. Roger felt ashamed of his act shortly afterwards and, coming back to London, began to conceive the idea of a wall between the band and the audience. The rest is history.
The problem was in part because the audience was going nuts yelling and screaming, setting off fireworks etc; all the stuff associated with the stadium rock bands of the 70's. Floyd became one of the biggest of these bands. Keep in mind that their audiences have always been very restrained almost "quiet" during their performances' hanging on every note played, listening to all the weird sounds etc., basically it was like going to a theater to watch a play. This relationship that they shared with the audience started to unravel during the '75 tour where the fans were not just common Floyd fans, but typical '70's rock fans, you know, the "Hey man, let's smoke some grass and see the Floyd" crowd. They were there more for the party than the music. Then in '77 with them playing larger outdoor venues on the American leg, they drew huge audiences and with that came all the distractions.
It didn't bother Dave and the others as much as it did Roger, but all in all they just felt like they weren't reaching the people like in the past. The rest is history as Seamus describes it.
I am going to say that it is not true. However, if in fact he did spit on the guy, the guy probably had it coming.
Roger tells you on the wall dvd that he in fact did spit on the fan, so there's your proof. But I completely understand him. I mean I have had some very small stress with that kind of thing compared to what Roger had, but I have felt the want to lose my temper at shows.
Sure, Roger was more than justified in what he did. The guy was probably a jerk. Hey, the guy has a story for his grandkids, "Roger Waters hocked a loogie on me!"

don't know about that, if some1 spat at me i'd beat the F*****.
anyway theres plenty of other things roger could have down, like throwing his bass at the persons head but spitting is low and shameful
