well, there is some discussion as to when the named was changed, Bob Klose and Chris Dennis quit in Jan 65, and most people believe the first show played by a band named Pink Floyd was Dec 1965...the song I am looking for was recorded in early 1966 and I guess I should have done more research before i said "what was the first..." but anyhow, any more guesses?
They became the Pink Floyd Sound sometime between Spring and Summer of 65. Certainly, they were by November when they played with Jokers Wild at Storms engagement party.
Given that, the first session I know of was on 31st October 66, at the Thompson Recording Co., Hemel Hempstead. They did Interstellar, Let's Roll Again, Silas Lane (alleged to eventually become Arnold Layne), and Stoned Alone.
I think...
...and one of those is the answer I'm looking for....

anyone, lol?
Well out of that lot, I think it was Interstellar Overdrive, their concert mainstay of the time.
Silas Lane, looking at the back of my Relics LP, it says Arnold Layne was recorded on 27th February 1967, Interstellar Overdrive on 16th March. So hopefully the earlier version of Silas lane was recorded a few months before.
third guess.....remember, Oct 31, 1966 was the recording date for the tune...and there is some debate over whether or not Silas Lane was recorded that early...it was according to some sources first recorded in May 68 as according to Syd, a "new song" labeled Silace Lang...but who really knows...so much is lost in history
So you are saying that this is not guaranteed to be 100% correct. Oh well, I will got with my second reaction and say Stoned Alone. Damn logical brain told me to think first and I changed my mind to Silas Lane.
