Ive jst watched the Remember that night Dvd and noticed at various sections that David appears to hide the pick between his ring and index finger and uses is thumb and first finger to finger pick some notes.

Last solo of on an island is a good example..

Its just struck me at why ive always found it impossible to get the punch and attack on some songs perfect and ive just realised its because hes attacking them with his thumb allowing the resonance from the strings to create a warm, clarity with the pickups.

For those who havent got a clue what im talking about its bassically the same technique hes using on the outro classical guitar solo on High Hopes.

Im very intreeged by this now and thougth id share it to see if anyone else has noticed.
That is actually a very good point, I have often wondered how he gets that warm tone a lot of the time . . . *scampers off to try himself*
Back in the day, when someone from a Rock perspective did that, they called it, "Chicken Picking," in the proper form, its more like an Alvin Lee style thing, but over time, anytime a Rocker tucks the plectrum under, and picks/pops the strings, a little, or a lot, it also was considered as the same.

I've seen some back cover notes of some Stones albums in the 60s and 70s, and they'd call it, "Percussive Guitar," in those times, it seems hmm

Finger picking seems just fine as a label guitar
LOL ok :s
What does :s mean? Unsure I'm not so smart.

Look at what Jeff Beck does with his fingers while working the vibrato, miracles right there. He dosen't have the song writing, but his chops are correct.

When I play Floyd songs on my acoustic, or, "Granpa's Guitar's" as my new hero Swissgar calls them, I use my fingers to pull out the melody in the simple chord constructions, which makes them sound dressed up. Jeff used to say, take something EASY, and then dress it up Biggrin

It would then seem natural for Dave to do the same. I've no direct knowledge of where or when. guitar

now, if he would finger pick whilst playing his sax? that would be awesome. rocker
