Hey Cevor!
You may be correct that the camera policy is venue and not band based in most venues but I saw Elton, Dylan, BB King and Neil Young (among others) at the very SAME venue and photos and videos were allowed with the exception of professionals. This venue had signs at all of the other shows clearly stating this policy which were posted everywhere and most noticeably at the very entrance (on the outside of the main doors into the stadium, at the box office windows, at all of the outer entrance points where you showed your tickets to get into the venue, the entry into all of the various sections of the stadium, the beverage stands, the memorabilia stands, washroom doors and on every pillar to be found!) At this show, again, same venue, the signs were posted at all of the above locations clearly stating in large bold print that no photographs, videos, cell phone pictures of any nature were to be taken and further stated that such devices would be confiscated if not adhered to! I did call the administration office before making my post about the difference in policy with Aussie Floyd because 1) I wanted to be certain that I wasn't griping about the band when in fact it was a policy of the venue and 2) I wanted to find out if the venue had changed their policy about the freedom to take photos and videos when attending future events there for my own information. I was told by the administration office that the camera policy that evening was Aussie Pink Floyd's and not a policy of theirs and was reassured that future events would allow photos and videos unless it was expressly forbidden by the artist(s). Soooo, the band forbade the cameras and not the venue. As I previously stated, they had more security with them than Barack Obama (aside from the venue's security) and a person wouldn't have been able to sneak a photo if they tried (not that I would have, respecting their policy). But quite frankly, I was a little pi**ed off about it considering that the bottom line here is that they are in fact a tribute (cover) band.
Having said all of that I still want to make it perfectly clear that I truly did enjoy their show and LOVED their video, especially earlier in the show when they had a kangaroo going to a shelf of albums and pulling out an album and putting it on a turntable which resulted in a roar from the crowd in anticipation of which songs they would play from the album. After having played some hits from it, again the kangaroo would select another album and on it went. They had Mr. Screen and much to my delight and surprise there was the inflatable kangaroo!!

The artists themselves were superb! Every one of them were great and I honestly can't single out a favourite performer. Initially I was very impressed and "wowed" by the guitar player (name is Bob as I learned here) but then the bass player, keyboards, drummers, female vocalists, male vocales, sax player, etc. etc. etc. were amazing.

Bottom line: Would I recommend them? Absolutely!

If anyone reading this thread has the opportunity they are a must-see and not to be missed! Would I see them again? (this was their second time here) An absolute unequivocal YES!!!
HUGS!
Janine
Ommadawn's post above is what I've heard directly from the band. My guess is that the venue wants to save face and just dumped it on the band when you asked them. Quite interesting about the other artists you've seen at the same venue and I'm not doubting or questioning you directly in this. It's also quite possible that the band's agency or management were responsible, but I can only go by what was told to me by a band member.
The bottom line is they're brilliant, aren't they! I'm not surprised you had a great time. I've had the pleasure of seeing them 6 times and can't wait for the next!
Finally, as manager of a tribute band the proper terminology is tribute band. Cover bands play the music of many artists and clone bands thry to look like the artists they pay tribute to. Silly, I know! lol!
Hugs!

Hey Cevor!
You must be right that the venue wanted to save face type of thing since you have the info directly from a band member and that can't be disputed by anyone.
The "norm" at that venue is photos are allowed at any show except by professionals. People are taking videos with their cells and snapping shots with their digital cameras all the time. Usually, about 24-48 hours later you can find all kinds of stuff uploaded to youtube at the venue where you saw them, along with other cities here where they may have performed. Example of this is that you can find all kinds of uploads of Elton from here, Halifax, Moncton, Calgary, etc etc (not sure if they would still be there or not). It is always fun to have a look to see what has been posted there from the different shows.
My bad on the "cover" band terminology and it isn't a silly point !!

Sorry, I should know the difference. You are right about the fact that they are indeed brilliant!! I loved and enjoyed their show and as stated previously I highly recommend that anyone who hasn't seen them should go if ever given the opportunity and I would absolutely most definitely go again. SIX times?? You, my friend are very fortunate to have seen them so often. Did they do different albums each time? Did you see them at several different venues or at the same one?
Hugs,
Janine

Hi Cevor,
If you are thinking of heading over to Belgium, give me a shout. I'm a Brit living in Belgium. It would be nice to put faces to names.

Janine....Clearwater and Orlando, Fl., Hartford, Conn and Scranton, Pa in '06, then Hartford and Scranton again in '07 and Brussels, Belgium '08, I guess that's 7! lol I'm very fortunate to have a close friend in the band and have become friends with the rest of the band through him. Ian, the bass player/vocalist is a founding member of Childhood's End, the band I manage. The first year they were doing DSOTM in it's entirety as the first set. After that it was more like the show you saw with a mix of the "greatest hits". They surely are the benchmark in the tribute industry and a fabulous group of people that I'm quite proud to call my friends.
Iain...perhaps, my wife is Belgian and she's been here in the U.S. a year now and would like a visit home within the next few months. It depends on their Europe tour schedule and our savings account! :-) I'll surely let you know if we're going to make the trip.
No worries mate, let me know. my wife and I are in Ypres (Ieper), West Flanders.
Regards
Iain
