Hello everyone.. I will be getting a electric guitar soon because my brother's isn't very good. I am wondering which guitar you guys think would be the best to go with. I want one for doing solos, and I love the Dave sound. I'm hoping to somehow get close to it the best I can. I don't know if I should get a Strat or Gibson or a completely different guitar. Please help.
Thanks.
Gilmour uses a Strat with some kind of special pickups as expensive as the guitar on most PF songs to get that distinctive sound. Uses lots of effects too. Hard to emulate that sound on a non-platinum-selling budget too closely, but you might get fairly close. I like Telecasters. He uses them occasionally, and that's what Syd used to use.

what he said
could you provide a few more pointers: price bracket for instance?
Another idea is to have a look at a fat strat. With the bridge humbucker and twin single coils it might give you that little bit more variety in tone that will be needed if your going to play songs from Syd's era through to all Daves work.
:alien: I believe that Dave uses the lace sensor pick ups in his strats and shortens up the vibrato so he can manipulate it with his pinky. The Gretch Duo Jet is a nice guitar as well.
As far as price goes I would say 400$ up to 1000$. Obviously I'm not made of money, and I won't be getting the best guitar out there, but I want a good decent guitar. I just need a place to start so I can narrow it down. I'm not sure how much money I will end up spending, but it will be somewhere around there. So that is the price bracket, atleast for now.

Abso-stratin'-lutely!
Alright! maybe I wouldn't pay 1000 bucks now that you mention it.... unless my parents helped out. I don't even have a job. Lets put the reality range of up to max 500. Does that change anything at all?
