hmmm, not unlike "The Final Cut", which is a Roger Waters album in all but name. I think the Division Bell is the first album since "Animals" that has important contributions from Nick and Rick. Momentary on the other hand is David's "Final Cut"... basically a solo album with the PinK Floyd tag.

I totally agree... which is why I think Division Bell actually goes back to Pre-Wall sounds. I still like Cut and Reason though.
Not surprisingly, given their respective strengths, Rogers' Final Cut is a cohesive release with little going for it musically.
DB has some moments of beauty, but nothing fits together. Rick's "contribution" ("Inside Out") is awful.
The band's best stuff was the result of true collaboration between Gilmour and Waters. Like most bands, once you get so big that you're not sitting around in hotel rooms and tour busses in your spare time trading musical ideas, the collaboration becomes weak.

Exactly, which is why I much prefer Momentary Lapse and Division Bell. They are much more listenable from a musical standpoint, they have melody, and Dave's superior singing and musicianship. If I only want lyrics, and no music, I'll read a book. Or I can just print off the lyrics and read them, and get the whole gist of it.

I think it's a great song....
Most well written song on the album. The only one I like better is Take It Back. I dunno why, though.
I know that Roger described A Momentary Lapse of Reason as "A pretty fair forgery" But i dont know about any others.

Ditto, "Inside Out" is the only song on DB I can tolerate, it almost sounds like real Floyd :)
Going to have to be blunt here, but anyone who says Final Cut lacks musically is a fool. Anyone who thinks Division Bell and that mullet rock album Momentary Lapse Of Reason are "more Pink Floyd", they are also a fool.
First of all, Final Cut used the first 3d sounds ever recorded. It also had Michael Kamen and an orchestra backing it up. Essentially, it was a very forward-thinking and advanced album, even if not everyone in the band fully participated. They just used the music to accentuate the lyrics more, which is a different songwriting technique than the standard "guitar solo goes here, chorus goes there, verse goes here.." technique that makes great, catchy radio singles for the masses.
It was different and it alienated people because it wasn't what they were used to. It was a progressive rock album. After that, Floyd (without Roger) decided to turn back the clock musically and rehash all the formulas that had been successful in the past. Basically, doing nothing new. In fact, Final Cut sounds more advanced than the album four years after it. Momentary's dated production and cheesy synthesizers cemented a big "1987" across the entire album's sound. Not to mention the terrible lyrics.
Basically, even if you believe Floyd is still Floyd without their dominant idea man, Roger's Floyd (and most of his solo stuff) is still better. Musically and lyrically. :D
You are entitled to your opinions, but I would hardly declare them as fact.
I actually like TFC, Momentary Lapse, and DB as well. I think they all offer something.
I've always felt that if you could melt together TFC and DB you would have one awesome record.
TFC is just so relentlessly beating me over the head while I listen to it, while DB really lets me relax and flow with the music and, of course, at the same time perhaps not as lyrically challenging at most points (although I think High Hopes is as good as any other classic floyd)
They both are great as is though.
only my opinions, your miliage may differ.
