Posting to say that I heard Mr. Mason in an interview a long time ago saying something to the effect that he was disappointed or ashamed of his drumming on Dark Side of the Moon. My response is that I think it's just right for the record. It doesn't dominate, it supports. It's all good. A couple of heavily emphasised tom episodes but I think that is Alan Parsons' fault.

I still have difficulty counting "Money" (pun not intended) so I don't worry about it much anymore. Guess that's why I'm not anything but a garage drummer. I did learn all guitar solos but the scale riffs bore me and, though they're easist of all, I have to concentrate most on them. But why would this matter on a Nick Mason message board?

Wow, I'm gonna have to disagree with Nick there, I think his drumming on Dark Side is superb!

If Nick's work on DSotM is sloppy for his standards and it sounds that good, I'd love to hear what he considers as good playing! You think DSotM blows you away now, what would it do being even better? I have alot of musical training and even I have trouble beating out on the table some of those clock sounding rhythms on the beginning of Time. What the heck would it sound like improved???
That's one of the amazing things about Dark Side. It WORKS. All the pieces fit, all the parts seem just right. It can't be improved.

Art lovers and creators are our own most stringent critics, right? I know I can be.
Or in Nick's case (and probably everyone's), he is being his own worst critic. I agree with you though, it sounds perfect already and can't be improved. It just wouldn't sound right if it were changed, even for the [what Nick would consider] the better.
Old Nick's just being modest, I think ;) I couldn't imagine Dark Side with any better drumming. Wheter louder, softer, different beats, or anything, and now that I think of it, if drumming can be "perfect" I think Nick takes the cake on Dark Side.
He's magic on Dark Side... They all are.

Top 3 drummers ever: Ginger Baker (Cream, Blind Faith), Keith "the loon" Moon (The Who), John Bonham (Led Zeppelin).

Nick more than holds his own, though.

Great to see him come on to play Set The Controls... at the Waters gig last year.
Some guy randomly started talking to my friends and I in the student bar. He said he loved the 3 drummers I've listed above as the greats, especially Keith Moon. He then said his mum as a young person had been a "follower", "hanger-on" of Moon. It then occurred to me that this chap looked almost exactly like the drummer of The Who. Not a great leap of the imagination to think that perhaps he is the "product" of the great Mod drummer. I wanted to test how good his sense of rhythm was and his tendency to drive Rolls-Royces into swimming pools! It was so funny that he was clearly the only person there who didn't realize there was a fair chance of him being related to a rock n' roll legend.

Mason and Waters on the same stage!!!!

Please forgive me i have been living under a rock....i didn't know about this?!?!

What gig was that?(which country)

.....could this mean ..... :Oo:
i think Mason's drumming was awesome on DSotM. Especially on Time. That into is just superb.I think Time and Shine On Part 1-5 have the best intros tomost any PF song. IT builds so much anticipation for the rest of it you can hardly stand it!!

And Mason played with Waters?? That's a shocker...
wasn't it when Waters took him off as the drummer for PF, that it started some of the problems between He and Gilmour??
I`m starting to piece together what could be a reunion of Pink Floyd. Both David Gilmour and Roger Waters said in recent interveiws that they are ok with one another now... Let's all hope
