Before I start I would like to make it clear that this is my opinion and that is all ok.

Anyway, I have recently been going over the boards and I have seen a lot of people who have in a way been putting Syd down or just asking about crap he supposedly did and not taking him into consent. He is a real person and I think that if he was to ever read some stuff on here he would probably get pissed.
Also, something that gets me mad is all of these kids (ok I have no room to call people kids because I'm only 16) are getting into Pink Floyd thinking that DSOTM is their first or second album and never knowing who Syd is. I myself try to find out as much about a band, or atleast enough to know what they went through before i start talking about them. But take this into example, some one at my school who claims they know Pink Floyd said that Roger was insane and that is why the band broke up. I wanted to put him in his place right there but I just walked off. Well, that was my 2 cents.

Later,
Cory B.
Syd is very good, all the negative lines is proof, if he wasn't nobody would waste time posting he wasn't.

Grant yourself some courage :) You should have put the kid at school in his place! You wouldn't even have to be mean about it. Something like, "No Syd Barrett is said to be schizophrenic. He left, or was ousted from the band. The band did not fall apart." would suffice. It's admirable that you want to learn about the band before you go on talking aobut the members.

You should read the Pink Floyd Encyclopedia by Vernon Fitch. It's an excellent source for soaking up tidbits of Floydian knowledge. (Vernon Fitch's web-site. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages...http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/PFArchiv )
I just noticed on the David Bowie Pin ups lp on the back cover David refers to his copy of See Emily Play as by Syds Pink Floyd. Check it out.
i heard david bowie looked up to syd a great deal. I think anyone who listens to pink floyd oughtta know who syd is. even after he left the band he practically made them who they are. Hell they wrote half their music about him.
Syd was the one who started the band basically... I think Syd is awesome

That's true, a little of Syd's talent went a long way, taking nothing from David, he is great also, just two very different styles, Syd's 60s and David's 70s.

Yeah, Syd is the pink floyd and thats about it eh?
Syd's story is a sad one there's no doubt about that; however his leaving of the band was the best thing that could ever happen to them (as the case of Gwen Stafaini's brother leaving No Doubt) they soared to new hieghts without him, which was both great for the band as well as the fans. "PS. good wishes to dear Syd". hammers
