This is just my humble opinion but I would rather listen to Syd's solo work more than PF's 70's/80's stuff. This is because of the humour and folkiness in Barrett's songs. They sound a bit nursey rhymish and generally upbeat and nice to smoke to.
PF's music is very doomy and sounds quite dated today. If they would've come out with albums such as Animals etc now, they'd probs get some derision. The Madcap Laughs is very fresh and stills feels new. If I had a choice between them I'd pick Syd.
Well, that's my 2 cents worth, thanks for listening.
yeah i listen to alot of syd's stuff nowadays but still have time for some pink floyd just not all the time.

i think syd's music can also get quite doomy aswell but for the most part its quite uplifting and his solo lyrics blow all the other members out of the water.

I think that the most depressing thing about syd was his impact on the rest of the band. When I listen to their albums, Wish You Were Here especially... It feels like all of their music was dedicated to him and inspired by him. Hmmmm hard to explain :(

Yeah, Syd is an excellent songwriter. Many of his words are so simple, yet mean so much.
he's music is also very groovy! I do like PF early stuff like More and Obscured By Clouds but I think they went downhill after DSotM, though.

How so? The Wall came out after DSoTM so not very downhill if at all. But indeed i would rather listen to my Barrett ot Peel Session albums than pf. rocker
Syd always had his triptastic music that i really do enjoy to
Looking at the above messages it seems I should check out early PF and Syd's solo work.

definately. for me the best period. and crazy how Barrett produced so much highly influential work in such a short time

I mean that the stuff after DSoTM doesn't have the optimistic vibe that the earlier songs have. I just like to have fun listening to music because life is full of pessimism that I don't need to be reminded of it. I like sections of The Wall and Dogs is a good track but I think Seamus is more swinging. But that is more humble opinion.
Syd's music swings...I know he didn't write Seamus but his good buddy Dave did.
Check out some of Wouldn't You Miss Me and the music stills stands up today whilst some of PF stuff doesn't.
