Does anyone else get the huge influence that jugband blues is a statement to the rest of the band about syds drug abuse? it seems like thats the message.
I really thought the lyrics JB makes no sense, and its sad thats the last song Syd did with Floyd. I do like the music on it, and is fun to listen to, but it seems that Syd was definitely too out of it to be able to write good lyrics anymore....but I dont know, I'm not very good at understanding lyrics anyway...
" I dont know, I'm not very good at understanding lyrics anyway..."
:;): I see; here's how I interpreted it.
"It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here
And I'm much obliged to you for making it clear that I'm not here."
That's Syd acknowledging that people have shown him he's crazy.
"And I never knew the moon could be so big
And I never knew the moon could be so blue
And I'm grateful that you threw away my old shoes
And brought me here instead dressed in red ."
That's about Syd's experiences while being crazy/high, and that someone's tried to change him either literally or figuratively.
"And I'm wondering who could be writing this song
I don't care if the sun don't shine
And I don't care if nothing is mine
And I don't care if I'm nervous with you
I'll do my loving in the winter."
He's saying his illness is so deep that he can't decipher the true from the false. I take those last two lines as being self-explanatory, he may be speaking to a girlfriend.
"And the sea isn't green
And I love the Queen
And what exactly is a dream
And what exactly is a joke."
That's Syd spilling out his confusion. I hope this makes sense with you now.
im wondering who could be writing this song should probably tip you off
it makes as much sense as "have you got it yet"..a warning,threat,message...TO THE REST OF THE BAND and MANAGERS at the time...

i think that is what the song is about too
I'm not sure about the drug references, but I definitely see the him referencing his own mental instability, which I always find rather disturbing.
