Is it just me or is Syd's songs on Piper and the singles seem artistic? Like poetry? I mean, I look at the lyrics for the songs he wrote and they are fairly short, but creative nontheless, I feel as if he had an imagination for those songs to be written. I hope you guys understand where I'm coming from.

For Chapter 24 he took the lyrics from some Chinese scripture I think. Astronomy Domine's lyrics were inspired by his first trip (LSD). Apart from that I'm not really sure, but he does seem to like telling stories (e.g. The Gnome, Arnold Layne). His lyrics seem much more down-to-earth than Roger's, i.e. dealing with much more everyday situations but somehow making them interesting in his own way.

I love Syd's lyrics. They inspire me.

Not so much as inspiring but they make you think, y'know?

He was on LSD.

I think he did a great job with lyrics but I also think that his voice is really good you know. I love davids voice and rogers is ok I suppose (not the biggest fan of what his voice sounds like now adays) but syds seems really deep you know. I love to hear him sing and think he did a great job with writing and singing the lyrics for the band early in there career.

syds not a talented singer, but his voice is appealing.

His voice actually reminds me somewhat of The Beatles. I actually don't/didn't mind it.

Is there anything NOT COOL about Syd b4 he became ill!?!? His guitar sound, his voice, even his hair & clothes.
The reason I love his lyrics so much is that they aren't about "She loves me/she left me/save the world/I hate the world".
I mean they take you away from everyday strife that we all have & Syd takes you to HIS world; a world I still can't find.....

Honestly, I don't believe Syd's music would've ever transitioned well as the years went on. He had a very unique and childlike writing style that I don't believe could be expanded to reflect current moods in music etc...

when Syd was "OK" everything he touched turned to gold. Pete Townshend said the ONLY time he EVER missed a Who gig was so he could go see Syd play.He wrote poetry that he turned into magic. He didn't really play the guitar, but more so he played the equipment,i.e. zippo lighter on the fretboards, the echo & delay on his axe. Even seen clips were he's banging the guitar during "Interstellar". His voice was so unique, he did actually sound kind of high!! Even the way he dressed; I'm STILL looking for a pair of those white shoes. His personal life turned into a travesty.......I always wished I had been there because if I had to, I would have beat his ass when he took LSD.ESPECIALLY his so called"friends" on Cromwell Rd. I'd be arrested for assault & battery on half that crowd after what they did to him. I woulda dragged him away..done something..anything to help

Poetry, pure art as poetry. I LOVE Lennon, Arthur Lee, Ray Davies....some of our (in my opinion!) greatest songwriters of the '60's. But Syd.........man he went places NONE of them could dream of. Even if he had stayed healthy, after PATGOD what would he do? How do you top THAT album? It's been done & no one has come close since. I would not want to give away what he did to get that music, those lyrics but really, after they booted him from the group(Ya, I said it!)what could top "Piper" Nothing, my friends.... to this day not a *&^&* thing & there never will be....
