Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - chromeboomerang - 10-14-2007 08:52 PM

Listened to this yesterday & it occurred to me how heavy it is. Pretty fast too as Floyd tempoes go. So, is it their heaviest?

Definitely one of the heaviest. I wonder what else would be competing with it: maybe The Nile Song, One of These Days, Run Like Hell or Not Now John?

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - chromeboomerang - 10-15-2007 09:14 AM

Voivod's version of The Nile Song for sure would. Run like Hell was dramatic, but a bit more synth action happening, Sheep is Guit dominated. A good call though.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - Wings on the Pig - 10-15-2007 09:21 AM

I wouldn't say it was the heaviest but it is definitely one of the more heavy tracks. I would include The Nile Song and Not Now John in the list of the more heavier songs than Sheep but those are probably the only ones.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - whongolian - 10-15-2007 12:22 PM

They've had their moments. The above mentioned, of course. Also to add...."The Gold It's In The...", the soloing on "Dogs Of War" and "Yet Another Movie".......in fact...a lot of the songs on 'Lapse' have edge to them. Just have to look past the 80's production.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - chromeboomerang - 10-15-2007 12:50 PM

Aha, perhaps a new compilation cd is born. Floyd's heavy ones.

Be fun to hear Dave & Rick have a go at say, Smoke On The water, or Electric Funeral.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - Philintheflesh - 10-15-2007 04:50 PM

Yeah, "The Nile Song" springs to mind. ("Young Lust" was meant to be a pastiche of a young rock n roll band and, according to Waters, they had The Nile Song in mind, when they recorded it).

Anyone heard the Foo Fighters version of "Have A Cigar"? Thats pretty heavy sounding.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - MacPhisto - 10-15-2007 09:40 PM

The word "heavy" always comes to mind when I hear Another Brick Pt. 1. It's "heavy" in its own special way.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - chromeboomerang - 10-15-2007 10:42 PM

Bass certainly is.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - MacPhisto - 10-15-2007 11:09 PM

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ibiza Bar yet. lol

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - cevor - 10-16-2007 03:03 AM

Pigs(Three Different Ones)...Not Now John....Run Like Hell....Young Lust..the list goes on and on, hard to pick just one...oh yea, Sheep is right there, no doubt

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - Dyolf - 10-16-2007 04:23 AM

I think that In The Flesh? / In The Flesh are the heaviest Floyd tracks, especially the live versions.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - Superhuman - 10-16-2007 09:54 AM

One of These Days. But I definately wouldn't call PF heavy at all, I'm a metalhead and Pink Floyd is one of the mellowest bands I listen to.

Sorrow
Nile Song

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - djdnl14 - 11-08-2007 10:54 AM

I'd say The Nile Song, so uncharacteristic of Pink Floyd, really surprised me when I first heard it

Wish you were here, in its own wayWink

Heck yeah! rocker
Pink Floyd is definetly one of the mellowest. I'm a fan some heavy but not TOO heavy bands.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - Funky Dung - 12-16-2007 07:10 AM

I think every song on Animals (excluding the Pigs on the Wing songs) are heavy. I think Sheep is the heaviest on the album, and rightfully so, since they're the ones being taken advantage of... they're revolting, and at the end, when the guitar solo comes in, they kill the dogs and pigs.

Sheep is right up there with The Nile Song/Ibiza Bar, In The Flesh?/In The Flesh, One of These Days, and Not Now John.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - BOOOSH - 12-17-2007 01:29 PM

The Nile Song is the Floyd's heaviest, IMO.

I played it to my brother, and he was like what the hell, this isn't Floyd.... haha. Point made. Cool

Now when you're mentioning it, David recorded a version of it together with Brian May, Roger Taylor and alot other artists, sometimes in the 80'ies, for something called Rock Aid Armenia.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - OlgaHH - 11-14-2008 05:49 AM

The Nile Song is the heaviest by its sound for me.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - Wings on the Pig - 11-14-2008 09:07 AM

I would have to agree although, as a whole album, that award would have to go to Animals.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - Tbach - 07-17-2009 11:32 AM

the nile song is pretty heavy so is not now john

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - emonerd826 - 07-18-2009 01:34 PM

Not as Heavy as some other three:

The Nile Song
Young Lust
The Trial (Judge Arse Part)

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - Idoownu - 07-20-2009 10:56 AM

Heaviest for me (in order)

3. Ibiza Bar
2. Not Now John
1. The Nile Song

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - FlashTheReadiesWotsUhTheDeal - 11-09-2009 09:00 PM

Animals is a pretty heavy album

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - codayo61 - 11-10-2009 11:52 AM

Animals is definantly the heaviest album. But Not Now John is the heaviest track imho.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - Pig (The Third One) - 11-10-2009 03:38 PM

Sheep is the heaviest.

The use of that Bible verse, the mellow organ in the beginning, then the lead into the heavy guitar and synths, just perfect.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - Lady Floydian - 11-10-2009 05:30 PM

I don't know if it's THE heaviest song they did, but it's definitely on the short list. I happen to think it's the 2nd best song on the album behind Dogs, and I love Roger's singing on it. Normally I'm not a big fan of his voice, but here it works well for me.

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - quicksilver - 11-11-2009 06:15 AM

I would include "When You're in" from OBC in this group of songs as well...........

RE: Sheep. Floyd's heaviest track? - azimuth - 11-11-2009 08:06 AM

Not sure if Sheep is heaviest but it's right up there with The Nile Song, Careful With That Axe, Eugene, One Of These Days.

The Nile Song always sounds so heavy cuz as far as I know that the drums were miked differently when it was recorded.

Listen to What Shall We Do Now? on The Wall Live 1980-81. That's pretty bone crunching too. It has some of the most deep, guttural guitar sounds that ever came out of the black strat!!Cool
