Very hard... I choose Time, its the most beautiful guitar piece ive ever heard. It just makes you think about things and it makes me feel good Santa What about yall?

- Myriad Small Creature - 03-18-2004 07:57 PM

The Comfortably Numb solo personifies the song so well. You could just listen to the solo and get the gist of what the entire Wall album is hinging on.

- scarlet eagle - 03-18-2004 09:14 PM

Gilmour's solo on Biding My Time from the Man and the Journey hits hard! rocker rocker

- Seamus - 03-19-2004 02:14 AM

Dogs.

- just_ashley - 03-19-2004 02:31 AM

high hopes the pulse version.
magic in my eyes.

i don't think i know these songs

- Seamus - 03-19-2004 08:28 AM

Biding My Time appeared in Relics only as far as I know. Such an overlooked song.

Seamus Wrote:Biding My Time appeared in Relics only as far as I know. Such an overlooked song.
Oh, ok/ I have that CD with me. It's playing...
not too keen. Is Roger singing on this one? the voice sounds strange.
actually, i could imagine that it would have worked quite well at the unplugged shows. I much prefer remember a day

- Bar - 03-19-2004 09:05 AM

Comfortably Numb is his greatest solo. Dogs is a beautiful guitar piece though, about 6 awesome solos.

- Barley - 03-19-2004 09:29 AM

What about Pigs (Three Different Ones)? Now that song has my favorite solo in it.

- bak2life - 03-19-2004 01:08 PM

CN Pulse is the best for me.

- Oobleck42 - 03-19-2004 02:28 PM

The Final Cut

I'll admit there are much more impressive (and maybe even better) solos, but I voted for The Final Cut because it's one that I really dig but it seems to be overlooked a lot.

agree with oobleck and wowser. southhampton dock is beautiful yet sad. great album TFC is!!
rocker

- Caravanserai - 03-28-2004 12:47 AM

I really love the guitar solos in Time, Any Colour You Like, Shine On (the first solo), Wish You Were Here, Sheep (the ending), Comfortably Numb, The Final Cut, On The Turning Away (the solo is actually the only thing I like about that song), Marooned, High Hopes.

- wowser - 03-28-2004 06:31 AM

Hang on! i made exactly the same poll! I'm boycotting this imfringement on copyright!

- Caravanserai - 03-28-2004 07:18 AM

There really should be a moderator in Albums section to delete all those duplicate threads...

- wowser - 03-28-2004 07:24 AM

yeah - it gets quite tedius. i may start a poll: which has been the worst poll? ...

- simps - 03-28-2004 07:39 AM

This should be in the guitar forum, not albums. Some moderation required. Sorry, Ed (wowser), if someone did "copy" your thread, but unless you labelled it as copyright appropriately, then I don't think you have much of a claim. Interesting idea for a poll: which has been the worst poll? Would one of the options be "this one", meaning the "which has been the worst poll" poll? I wouldn't recomend starting such a poll. Sounds funny, but could lead to people rubbing each other's feathers up the wrong way. The forum's been peaceful of late. And long may it remain that way.

- wowser - 03-28-2004 08:14 AM

i wasn't serious about the copyright - just a bit peeved that we now have two identical guitar solo polls, and i had the idea...

- wowser - 03-28-2004 08:15 AM

i didn't even know 'your possible parts" had a solo. did i miss dogs from my list? i hope not - good solo... no i'm boycotting this!

- simps - 03-28-2004 09:34 AM

Dogs has superb musicianship (not to mention songwriting) all round. One of the top 3/5/10 Floyd tracks anyone?

- MajorSteve - 03-31-2004 07:46 AM

I voted for echoes, but I think that the Time and Money solo's work so well into the album that their more of an extension of the riff. Plus I love when Floyd lays down the funk. That's what they do best.

- wowser - 03-31-2004 07:50 AM

MajorSteve Wrote:I voted for echoes, but I think that the Time and Money solo's work so well into the album that their more of an extension of the riff. Plus I love when Floyd lays down the funk. That's what they do best.
If i want to listen to funk, i check out Funkadelic or Parliament, not pink floyd. Nile Rodgers is the greatest funky guitarist, though!

- PinkSchism - 04-02-2004 08:44 PM

wow im surprised Time hasnt been voted on more, that solo is beautiful!

- Lakeweirdo - 06-22-2004 06:50 AM

The one from Time is my favorite.

- Lumiere - 06-22-2004 07:01 AM

SOYCD or Echoes.

- Shiptar - 08-01-2004 01:10 AM

I love the Time solo! It has me reflecting on so much of my past and life in general.Even after hearing it for the zillionth time it still gives me chills.

- ALMegow - 08-01-2004 12:19 PM

Time has the greatest PF Solo, it's beautiful. When I Listen to "Time", I go right for the solo.

- darksidefan4 - 08-11-2004 08:12 AM

I like the guitar solos in Dogs.
Those just make my day.

- TheTimbit - 08-18-2004 09:50 AM

money by far takes the ckae, the solos triple traked as in three solos goin at once, and he made it sound just as good live, listen to it on darkside and then on pulse or delicate sound of thunder, youll see what im talkin about, they were entertainers

- Lumiere - 08-24-2004 02:29 PM

Or in fact don't, because Money is butchered on DSOT/PULSE.

Now that I think, the Dogs/Pigs/Sheep solos really impress me, as do the two solos in Comfortably Numb. Genius.

- Skeid - 08-26-2004 06:27 AM

It's between Time, CN and Shine..

Ok, I have to say..... Comfortably Numb. It fits the song so perfectly, sooo nice.

- Prism - 08-27-2004 08:40 PM

Comfortably Numb is great, but I like On The Turning Away, too.

- PinkSchism - 09-17-2004 09:28 PM

how OLD is this thread? o well and sorry wowsers for "copyright" from like 5 months ago :-D

- john6974 - 09-18-2004 02:21 AM

:blues: solo at the end of Poles Apart maybe not THE best but definately one of them.

There is no pain.....

Your Possible Pasts has a very good solo on it.

Comfortably Numb
there is no comparison

- Time - 10-06-2004 05:38 PM

Although Time is the best song of all time, Comfortably Numb has the best solo. The song is pretty slow and calm, and then the solo hits you and blows you away.

- dbn part one - 10-06-2004 09:34 PM

For me Comfortably Numb is my favorite David Gilmore solos, then again---I think David Gilmore is one of the best guitarist of our time that hardly anyone talks about outside the Floyd fans; more ever, I like just about everything he plays on the guitar--they all have something for me to remember about different times in my life!!!

Point:

David Gilmore just ROCKS!!!! rocker

- HOD - 10-07-2004 02:06 PM

I HAD to vote for Comfy (in particular the DSoT version), but I'd also consider "Sorrow". Both send shivers down my spine! :music:

- Fat_Trace - 10-08-2004 02:10 PM

Had to vote for Comfy, because of the live version, the first I saw that Huge great mirror ball dropping out the roof my head nearly exploded. But having said that, I think that the emotion thats conveyed both by Dave AND Roger when they have been doing Shine On (Iknow Roger doesn't play lead on it) Makes it worth mentioning

- Steve Hill - 10-08-2004 04:57 PM

I have to go with the sheep on this one. Comfortably Numb has been voted consistantly within the top 5 solos of all time for a number of years, (Stairway to heaven being by far the greatest), but all of the choices listed are good in their own way. I am also partial to Dogs, but it emotes in a much different way to Cumfortbaly Numb.

- newagehippie - 11-11-2004 06:53 AM

Toss up between comfortably numb and some stuff from division bell and idk I dont like these polls I shouldnt have to choose my favorite floyd piece man

2. Dogs

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - Lady Floydian - 02-27-2011 05:10 PM

Gotta go with Comfortably Numb on this one, with Time running a very close second. Odd to see it garner so few votes. I couldn't possibly nail down which version of the CN 2nd solo I love the most, although the PULSE version is considered the penultimate. David himself says that the solo he did in New Orleans on that same tour is the best he's ever done, and I've heard it.....he might be right.

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - hunter21291 - 02-27-2011 11:01 PM

Definitely Time. It was the first guitar solo of theirs that really got my attention. It's incredibly emotional, at the same time as being mellow. To be honest, though, without the "oohs" and the "ahs", it wouldn't have had much as an impact of me. Those complete the solo.

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - blue_ember - 03-02-2011 10:46 AM

CN is #1 but Echoes (live in Gdansk) is my #2 for sure. Their just mystifying and emotional!!! You know that feeling like everything is ok and the high you get, the tingling on the hairs on the back of your neck.

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - silverpot - 03-02-2011 12:18 PM

It's almost impossible to choose the best Gilmour solo. Has he ever done a bad one?

Dogs is one of my favorites though, along with Shine On part 7.

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - Arno Sluismans - 03-02-2011 12:27 PM

I'll go with Comfortably Numb on this one.

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - cevor - 03-03-2011 05:05 AM

Epic bump! Good one though... Comfortably Numb and Time, depends on the day.

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - Joe - 03-03-2011 05:53 AM

Echoes :-)

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - sheffmark - 01-15-2012 03:26 PM

The second guitar solo on Comfortably Numb is probably the best in music history.
But in my opinion it's very closely followed by the solo in Time.

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - blue_ember - 01-15-2012 06:32 PM

I think that the full PULSE Comfortably Numb guitar solo is absolutely amazing! I can't stop listening to it!

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - Floydy - 01-15-2012 07:06 PM

One of these days

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - Joe - 01-16-2012 01:13 PM

I voted for Echoes a long time ago...I definitely changed my mind. Interstellar Overdrive is amazing. Especially the live versions.

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - Pink Flow - 03-20-2012 12:35 PM

All good ones but having to choose I will have to say Shine On.

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - Mother77 - 06-20-2012 03:42 PM

Fletcher Memorial

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - Ireneket - 04-12-2013 06:02 AM

Comfortably numb has the best and most expressive solos for me by far! I've made a cover video of both solos ages ago, played as close to Dave as possible :)

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - Arno Sluismans - 04-12-2013 10:12 AM

Skill-wise, it's probably Comfortably Numb. But I think my favourite solo of all time must be Mudmen...

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - Remember Vera Lynn - 04-12-2013 01:13 PM

While all of Gilmour's solos are absolutely phenomenal, I'd have to choose Time as my favourite. It was the first PF song I've ever heard and the amazement I felt when I first listened to the solo has stuck with me.

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - AutumnShantelMarie - 04-28-2013 05:48 AM

I voted Echoes, but if I chose a different one, it'd probably be Coming Back to Life or Mother. Maybe not the longest or most masterful solos, but just beautiful..

RE: BEST PF Guitar solo - choose - Dyolf - 04-28-2013 06:18 AM

I can't pick as I go through periods of loving different PF albums / eras. Like right now I'm listening to Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall a lot, particularly while at work. So I'm likely to pick something from there. I do love Dave's slide guitar solo on "Shine On, part 6" (and the version on his In Concert DVD).

Having said that there's some brilliant guitar work on Obscured by Clouds which is always overlooked, and The Final Cut (which is the album's saving grace, in my opinion). But then I love Dave's debut solo album which is guitar-porn, basically.

I suppose, gun to my head, I'd choose the first "Comfortably Numb" solo as it's the solo I'd choose to show someone what a fantastic guitarist sounds like.
