This is a story from Reuters regarding David's new album released on September 15th, 2008:-

Gilmour goes for live glory in "Gdansk"

By Gary Graff 1 hour, 27 minutes ago 15.08.08

DETROIT (Billboard) - David Gilmour's upcoming concert album, "Live in Gdansk," turned out a little different than the Pink Floyd guitarist planned.

"The original intention was to make a live album out of the whole tour, selecting different songs from different nights," Gilmour told Billboard.com. "But so many of the best ones just seemed to come from that last night in Gdansk that in the end we thought, 'Oh, we'll just do the whole thing from Gdansk."

It was certainly a momentous night, a performance at the Polish city's historic shipyards on August 26, 2006, that marked the 26th anniversary of the founding of the Solidarity (Solidarnosc) Trade Union. For that night only, Gilmour and his band, who had been on the road promoting his latest solo album, "On An Island," were accompanied by a 40-piece string section from the Baltic Philharmonic Symphony conducted by one of Poland's leading film score composers, Zbigniew Preisner, who had done the orchestral arrangements on the album.

Represented on five different CD and DVD packages coming out September 16 via Columbia, "Live in Gdansk" also captures Gilmour reveling in a new era of his career in which he's comfortable with his Pink Floyd legacy but "finding new feet a little bit as an artist after all these years."

"It was the most satisfying and enjoyable experience in my touring life," Gilmour said. "I think on the last solo record ('About Face') I made back in '84, I was a bit nervous about the Pink Floyd thing and wanted to stay away from it, whereas most of what the Pink Floyd thing is a sound that I love. On ('On An Island') I finally got to a place where I felt free from any pressure either way from that whole specter."

Gilmour reaffirmed that these days "the thought of going back to Pink Floyd just doesn't interest me." But he doesn't yet have solid plans for his next recording venture, either.

"I want to get ('Live in Gdansk') completely put to bed before I even worry about anything new," Gilmour said. "I've got a lot of material left over form ('On An Island'), so ... I've got a lot of start points. ... It's good to have bits of music to start working on, but how many of them I will actually use and how much new stuff will come up is anyone's guess. That's in the lap of the gods."

EXCUSES EXCUSES!

Sometimes, although I love him to bits, I think David Gilmour is a very complex soul.

I don't think he realises how many people would kill for a chance to see PF one last time, especially young people.

Seriously, though, I mean let's face it. It wouldn't be "one last time" would it, I mean, we'd always be banging at his door for more. guitar

Me thinks that's the reason he won't get into Reunion Mode cos even he might not be able to stop the flow and that, well, he might actually enjoy the buzz.

He has a family now and is very married etc etc etc...maybe that's why he won't tour .... without being horrible, maybe Polly won't let him!

Hmmmm>!:hmm

Love
Cori B xxxxSickErmm

PS: Could be that he just doesn't want to in the end, I suppose! Shame........:-(

RE: GDANSK - littlepinkbraincellrevisited - 08-17-2008 05:03 AM

Even so, if I were of his status, I would think of the fans that got him to this plateau in the first place.

RE: GDANSK - Xardie - 08-17-2008 07:03 AM

David doesn't owe anything to anyone.

As for interview, awesome!

RE: GDANSK - littlepinkbraincellrevisited - 08-17-2008 07:08 AM

Nobody owes anybody anything! You are missing what I am trying to say. I'm going now, BYE!

RE: GDANSK - cevor - 08-17-2008 07:37 AM

This is a tired old topic that has been beaten around in numerous other threads, besides the fact that there are already other threads about the Gdansk release.
I'll continue to take the position that no matter what David does it won't be enough. Live 8 was it, get over it, you should be glad they gave us that. The assertions that he should "think of the people who got him there" are just silliness. Did he tell you he doesn't? Hardly. Do you think he put up with Roger long enough to do Live 8 for any other reason besides giving tribute to Syd, saying goodbye as a band and helping charity? What a selfish bugger he is! How could he! I hope he doesn't read this rubbish. "Maybe Polly won't let him", how low can you get?

"Solidarnosc". That`s a blast from the past. Hope Dave sent Lech Walesa a complimentary ticket.

It was part of Germany before 1945 and then the Soviets shifted Poland ~100 miles west. What was Konigsberg is now Kaliningrad.

Everyone of us wishes for a reunion. My issue comes with people who expect or think they are owed or deserve one.
Until something changes, this is David's decision and he's been very clear on it.
Why not just be happy with the fact that David and Roger continue to tour individually, as they choose, not as someone else tells them to.
CEVOR

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am. With all due respect if you would have read my post correctly you would have noted that no matter what anybody ses, whether David and Roger are touring independently, people still want the ultimate, which is a Pink Floyd Reunion.

....and....We are all allowed to hope and dream. That hasn't been censored yet!

RE: GDANSK - mikoyan29 - 08-20-2008 05:25 AM

Oh yeah, as far as my other point in this thread. I'm sick of the bickering between Roger and David fans. Can't folks realize that they are both talented musicians in their own right? Roger's Floyd had a different focus than David's Floyd. I give the edge to Roger's Floyd since there was a synersism there but I do like David's Floyd.

RE: GDANSK - littlepinkbraincellrevisited - 08-20-2008 09:40 AM

Well, mikoyan29, I was lucky enough not to get any of that MTV crap. I watched it on British BBC !

I agree with you about the fans thing. Now that is damn stupid.

I wish I could have watched it on another channel. I thought they would do what they did with Live Aid where they had some acts on MTV and some on VH1 (since they are both owned by MTV). They didn't. Instead they just bounced back and forth between the various cities.

Seems they learned their lesson on the Global Warming Concert but I think they weren't covering that.

I used to be one of those fans (Momentary Lapse of Talent) but then I realized that the Gilmour Floyd had some merit. I'm glad I moved past that.

The band don't owe me anything.
Nobody has ever owed me anything, Cevor.
The point I am making is that I am allowed to dream and if I want to daydream about a Pink Floyd reunion than I will, as childish as this last comment may sound.
Perhaps you realise your dream by performing in a PF tribute band. But what I don't understand is why my thinking makes you so angry. What issues within you does it unleash?
Of course, I realise, this is none of my business......!Wacko

Hey, BTW, sometimes dreams do come true!Whistling

Now growl at me! Rolleyes

Your previous posts belie your explanations. I didn't ask for them anyway. You can't say one thing and say it means another. No one ever said you or anyone wasn't allowed to wish (my word) or dream (your word). If you actually read my last post it stated why I was angry and I quoted the posts that did it. Period.
