Live in Gdańsk - Dyolf - 10-02-2008 06:13 AM

THIS ALBUM IS THE SEX!!!

Blushing

Okay, now that's that out of my system...

I absolutely love this Deluxe Edition, 5-disc version of "Gdańsk", the DVDs are awesome, Dave playing (most of) his set with an orchestra is awesome and the bonus CD with extra tracks from the tour is awesome!#

One thing though: Wot's... Uh The Deal? isn't on it, which isn't a suprise as the FEd made it clear that it's only available on the vinyl, iTunes or via a weblink on Disc 3 (DVD), but Disc 5 (the bonus tracks) also has tracks from the main "Gdańsk" album. Why repeat them? Surely he could have substituted The Blue or Where We Start from that CD with Wot's... Uh The Deal?... SURELY! Oh well.... I downloaded it from iTunes anyway and slipped it between SOYCD and AD on my iPod.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Wings on the Pig - 10-02-2008 07:02 AM

I'm still waiting for my 5-Disc set from Amazon. Can't wait for it. rocker

RE: Live in Gdańsk - quickpost - 10-02-2008 07:15 AM

6 week wait at least for hmv :( useless gits

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Thora Puddytat - 10-02-2008 12:07 PM

Order it from Amazon, mine was dispatched today and they are quoting October 4th-12th for delivery generally (I'm getting mine tomorrow thoughThumbsup) so better than HMV's 6 weeks.

Cool! Amazon it is then.

Btw, dig the username...

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Dyolf - 10-02-2008 01:25 PM

I pre-ordered mine from Amazon UK and it arrived on release day.

Another thing that disappoints me slightly is that the orchestra don't play on all the songs, I was quite looking forward to hearing Echoes with an orchestra, that would sound sweeeet, so would Astronomy Domine and Fat Old Sun.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Kirara2001 - 10-03-2008 04:42 AM

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Dyolf - 10-03-2008 06:00 AM

Another thing that puzzles me is why leave SOYCD off the DVD when it was one of only 2 shows when they used a Glass Harmonica and Rick played his keyboard intro? Madness!

RE: Live in Gdańsk - mabewa - 10-03-2008 07:44 AM

It's a completely bad-ass live album--I love it. And, yes it's sad to hear because of Rick's passing, but I'm so glad it came out when it did: it really provides a good way to remember him. So, yeah, I find myself choking up a lot when listening to it, but it really is a proper way to mourn a great musician: hearing his last full live show, which just so happened to find him at the peak of his powers.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Xardie - 10-03-2008 07:54 AM

All that needs to be said:

This album has BEST EVER rendition of Comfortably Numb solo

(the Gdansk set version)

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Wings on the Pig - 10-03-2008 08:02 AM

I would recommend anyone to order it from Amazon. I have just got an email to say they have dispatcheed it and it will arive tomorrow! Can't wait . . .

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Xardie - 10-03-2008 08:28 AM

lol I'm listening to CN Solo over and over again

hmm, maybe I should dig in other stuff finally...

Oh, this album made A Great Day of Freedom from fine song to awesome! Cheers!

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Thora Puddytat - 10-03-2008 11:45 AM

It is now showing as 'in stock' at Amazon.
Mine arrived today, wow it's bloomin' brilliant, well worth the wait.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - AlansPsychedelicBreakfast - 10-03-2008 08:34 PM

I downloaded the free track
After hearing it, I gotta have it all

RE: Live in Gdańsk - pinkfloydfan1 - 10-04-2008 06:43 AM

Hope everyone enjoys looking for the Easter Eggs.

I loved them.

Yeah the Easter Eggs are cool.

The Easter Egg locations are in the spoiler:

RE: Live in Gdańsk - only floyd - 10-10-2008 11:46 PM

I've just returned from a 2 week holiday in sunny Crete, this site went down before I left Pinch so I have a lot of catching up to do, before I went, I downloaded Gdansk onto my mp3 and I think I've worn it out playing it all the time, from the very beginning of 'Speak To Me' the shivers went down my spine then tears flowed when I heard Rick singing in 'Time', the rest of the album was beautiful, stunning and magic, I couldn't have been in a more peaceful place listening to an album that would be approved by the Great Philosopher in the Sky.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Irresistible Pastime - 10-18-2008 01:04 PM

I had a glimpse to some parts of the show in Gdansk.
Awesome!
I would put Gilmour as the headman of the band considering -everything.
The performance, the voice, the stamina.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - dgrid - 10-30-2008 01:08 PM

Well how about that Fat Old Sun solo? Grittier than anything since the Obscurred by Clouds days!

dgrid Wrote:Well how about that Fat Old Sun solo? Grittier than anything since the Obscurred by Clouds days!

I like the way he did FOS on the tour (though he didn't play it when I saw him, I got W...UTD instead Sad ) but he definitely slips into the Echoes solo during FOS on the "Gdansk" show.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Sun Controller - 11-10-2008 03:06 PM

I haven't got it yet. Probably, because I haven't had a chance to absorb the Remember that Night DVD. Yes, I have seen it but not absorbed it fully, so I'm not racing out to get this new release. Money is a factor too. Sounds like this will be a worthy purchase.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - mabewa - 11-11-2008 06:27 AM

I'm enjoying the extra downloads. SOYCD, Wots the Deal, and now Dominoes! rocker

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Some Other Jackass - 11-11-2008 11:07 AM

I watched the VH1 broadcast of the shortened concert today. Was the crowd very polite or was much of their sound engineered out of the recording? They cheered and clapped only when they were suppose to in appreciation of the music perhaps and I did not hear one "Play Freebird" from a drunken Pole.
The running stage clock seen more than once was also interesting. I think it showed the local time as well as counted down the time perhaps in hours, minutes seconds. Is it that necessary for the band to know how long they have been playing or how much longer they could be playing? I guess I never thought of it before.
I did like Dave's voice and many of the songs in this performance compared with the last recorded live performance from the Delicate Sound Of Thunder tour of the late 1980's.

What clock? Where?
None of the songs were last played on DSOT.... they were last played in 1994, on the Division Bell tour. Tongue i.e. P*U*L*S*E.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Some Other Jackass - 11-11-2008 08:03 PM

There is a red diode clock which presumably faces the stage off on Dave's left side seen at least three times during the performance.
The last live performance I speak of for me was the Delicate Sound Of Thunder. I do not have P.U.L.S.E. or Division Bell live recordings so his voice and some guitar work on songs such as "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", "Time" and "Comfortably Numb" were slightly better in my opinion in this recent Gdansk live performance recordings.

SOJ, European audiences do tend to be more polite and reserved than American audiences, so I'm sure that's a big part of it, plus probably some sound engineering too.

This is true, check out the difference between the audiences on the DSOT video and the Pulse or RTN DVDs.
We were all most polite at the Albert Hall anyway Biggrin

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Wings on the Pig - 11-12-2008 11:24 AM

We definitely were. Cool

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Some Other Jackass - 11-12-2008 12:31 PM

I don't watch much golf honestly but one of the things that you noticed long about 5 years ago as Tiger Woods gained popularity, the spectators had also changed attitudes and demeanor and deluted the game etiquette. In Europe you probably don't hear someone shout, "Get in the hole" after (insert famous golf professional here) attempts a putt.
But that politeness means a lot less women showing everyone what they've got. Don't it now?

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Jumpy - 11-17-2008 07:28 PM

I haven't been on the forum much lately, and sad to say, I didn't even know this CD was out. But I saw it in the store yesterday and bought it right away.

I own the double CD. I was a little disappointed in the first disc, but I like the second a lot. "Astronomy Domine" is probably my fave. And in "Wish You Were Here," it's nice to hear the piano flourishes by Rick.

They may be by Leszek Mozdzer, he guested on piano but not sure which songs.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Wings on the Pig - 11-19-2008 07:58 AM

Was he the guy that was on A Great Day for Freedom?

Wings on the Pig Wrote:Was he the guy that was on A Great Day for Freedom?

Probably, he's got glasses and a pony-tail. I think he plays on The Blue and A Pocketful of Stones as well.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Wings on the Pig - 11-19-2008 10:04 AM

Yeah. That's the one. I wondered who he was when I watched the DVD. Thumbsup

He played on the OAI album too.

Well, of course I'm not sure, but I'd have to say it's Rick. It's funny how little I've heard of Rick playing Pink Floyd material in the last two decades. But the guy playing piano in "Wish You Were Here" to me sounds like the same guy playing on the studio version of ... oh ... say "Great Gig in the Sky."

Okay... I only said "They may be by Leszek Mozdzer" as he only played piano at the gig whereas Rick also plays organ and such.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - cevor - 12-02-2008 10:56 AM

After several listens to the Gdansk cds I think I prefer RTN. When watching the Gdansk dvd it seems that the unusual setting and the orchestra act as eye candy enhancing the whole package which is cool. In the end the RAH is visually stunning, the guests are amazing and the overall performance is sharper, which I would credit to being earlier in the tour.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Wings on the Pig - 12-02-2008 01:16 PM

I tend to agree with you if mentioning just the DVDs Greg, but in terms of the overall package, with the Deluxe 5-Disc Gdansk version there is no competition. rocker

Well I haven't seen the five disc set yet, but it'd better have some amazing stuff. I just don't think the Gdansk performance overall holds up to RTN.

Just watching the Barn Jams again, Rick really does look quite ill in these videos, so sad Crying .
I hope these "jams" form into something one day, they're all good tunes.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Relic - 03-23-2009 08:44 AM

When I went to see the On An Island Tour (one of the nights that was filmed for the DVD), Rick looked pretty ill then. Obviously it's much easier to see in the flesh. But hey, it didn't affect his playing one bit. I was mesmerised when he played the opening to Great Gig in the Sky.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Dyolf - 05-10-2009 03:41 AM

Just listening to Disc 5 (the bonus tracks from the tour), which some of you may be downloading over the months. Listening to "Coming Back to Life" and it seriously needed to be done with Phil on an acoustic rather than electric guitar, it just doesn't sound right. And Dave should have put "Wot's... Uh the Deal?" on disc 5 instead of more versions of APOS, WWS, WYWH or FTCOF...

RE: Live in Gdańsk - DJKalteraphine - 05-10-2009 05:42 AM

I don't know if I agree. I think that's my favorite version he's done of "Coming Back to Life".

Okay, so, it's a long story, but, basically, I ended up with a copy of Gdansk yesterday. Here's my opinion on it...

It is, quite possibly, the most plain, dull and depressingly boring live album I have ever heard in my entire lifetime. Even more so than Pulse.

But that's just my opinion.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Androkles - 05-31-2009 07:36 AM

I find, that Remember That Night has far better versions of Echoes, Comfortably Numb, etc., but I still enjoy listening to Live in Gdansk.

You, good sir, are completely insane.

But that's just my opinion. ;D

Addendum: "Echoes" in Gdansk is the greatest version of that song to me, and I've heard a *lot* of bootlegs of that particular tune. (Seriously, if they gave out doctorates on "Echoes", I'd be DrKalteraphine.)

RE: Live in Gdańsk - whiplash - 06-16-2009 09:08 AM

very good album in my opinion

It's great i love it !!! Fantastic preformance

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Lady Floydian - 05-23-2010 05:16 PM

This is one of my all-time favorite albums, even amongst those artists who are not Pink Floyd and were never in Pink Floyd. I currently have the 2CD version, but I'd like to get the 2CD+DVD version, possibly for my birthday in a couple weeks. There really is no way to express how much I love his music, his voice, his guitar playing skills -- suffice to say, the English language ran out of superlatives to describe him a long time ago.

I hope those here who don't have it yet, go pick it up. It's not to be missed.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Cabbage Love - 08-07-2010 05:07 PM

Highlights for me are Echoes (!), Fat Old Sun, Astronomy Domine, Shine On... and Dave's great great playing and singing! I think this might be the best live vocals I've ever heard from him. Esp Shine On!

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Lady Floydian - 08-07-2010 05:37 PM

Can't forget Comfortably Numb. That solo is *almost* as good as P*U*L*S*E. Almost.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Cabbage Love - 08-07-2010 06:07 PM

Oh, bummer! I forgot Comfy... I think that solo is actually better than Pulse. The DSOT version is better than Pulse too.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Lady Floydian - 08-07-2010 06:39 PM

Oooh, I don't know about that. The full unedited solo from the PULSE concert is about 1:15 longer than what we normally see, so there's a lot more awesomeness that goes unnoticed. The DSOT solo is epic no doubt, but I think the PULSE version beats it by a mile. When that mirror ball opens up and he starts doing that divebombing sound on the Strat......that's quite literally the most epic PF moment ever.

RE: Live in Gdańsk - Cabbage Love - 08-07-2010 06:50 PM

Well, DSOT was my first PF love. I bought it when it was fairly new and played it all the time as a teen. So it will always be special to me. :-)
