Summer '68, of course (for me). Atom heart mother Suite I like more with guitars and without orchestra. Fat old sun is quite good (I liked it not too long ago).

Atom Heart Mother, the best song? WTF? Okay, I'll bite: the main theme is well written, and there are some segments that work really well (the intro and Funky Dung come to mind), but it's just waaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. Maybe if they cut, say, half of it, it would be better.
Oh, and I voted for Summer '68. Cos it actually is the best song.

Hard to choose... The opening and closing tracks are two solid instrumentals. "If" and "Fat Old Sun" are good tracks too, but "Summer '68" stands out. It's possibly Rick's best solo writing credit, imo (if you count Great Gig as a Wright-Torry co-authorship).
"Fat Old Sun" would be my second choice.

I just love AHMS- yeah its experiemental and has its flaws, but anyone who really loves Floyd knows that's part of their appeal. Sometimes Floyd's experiements can fall flat = portions of APB, but they still have worth. They tried things other bands were afraid to do.
I'm new to this board and I'm suprised to see how many people posting negatively about some of their songs. While we all have things we like & dislike I tend to think PF fans have open minds. That's why tracks like AHMS encompasses all they are- creativity, experimentation, true musicianship, sucesses and failures...
AHMS was also the first song I heard after my daughter was born- so there's a wonderful memory.
Really enjoy the whole LP. Summer '68 is great and so is Fat Old Sun. If & APB are good too, not great but good - and still better than a lot that's out there.
