Funny Floyd Moments - Stiles - 08-06-2009 02:29 PM
What are your favorite Floyd moments that have made you laugh? I had at least two in mind, but I can only remember one:
From The Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd Story, where it shows Roger and Syd being interviewed on Look Of The Week, and the bald guy with the mustache says "Why must it always be so terribly loud?" and then it cuts to Nick mocking the guy. That was funny.

One of my favourite moments is from the Pompeii gig.. When Adrian, the director, asks Roger, David, Rick and Nick about the Pink Floyd sound and he asks "But seriously, you think you need any talent at all?".. and all the guys laugh out loud and David replies.. "Well why arent millions and millions of imitators of the Pink Floyd sound? Why isnt everyone else as successful ?" .

I remember the other one now, it was a sound file of Roger at a live show in the late 70's when he was performing Pigs On The Wing, and certain people in the audience were distracting him, because they were setting off fireworks and wouldn't stop yelling, and he says:
"Oh... for fuck's sakes, stop letting off fireworks and shouting and screaming, I'm trying to sing a song! I mean I don't care, if you don't want to hear it, you know... fuck you, I'm sure there are a lot of people here who do want to hear it. Why don't you just be quiet? You want to let your fireworks off go outside and let them off out there. And if you want to shout and scream and holler go do it out there, but I'm trying to sing a song that some people want to listen to it. I want to listen to it."

about 4 minutes into it when Mason is speaking ....out of no where it seems like he has turrents and mumbles in a funny as way.....lol for those who has seen it know what im talking about hahaha

But my second favorite moment, is David's face during the guitar solo of the Live at Earl's Court version of Comfortably Numb, check it out on YouTube.

If you have seen David Gilmour's Remember That Night DVD, during the documentary part there is a day where it is raining before the show and David and Rick start discussing shows they have played in the rain. If you click the Icon in the bottom corner of the screen, David does a hilarious impression of a drunken Judy Garland.

almost all the great moments have been mentioned already but I love all the interviews that they did on live at pompeii and the interview with that old guy from the string quartet....all of that is classic awesomness
one thing that hasnt been mentioned is from a bootlegged recording of a 1977 live recording called Animal Instincts...(freaking awesome live album...search Animal Instincts on google). anyways when they play Have a Cigar roger or dave (i cant tell which) screws up the lyrics at the beginning and then they start laughing as theyre still playing and continue on. thats classic stuff right htere

I have it and you're right, it's amazing. They both screwed up the lyrics and started laughing. What gets me is that the two of them were almost at dagger points professionally at that time, yet there was a rare moment of laughter between the two. A nice reminder of what used to be, I suppose.

Yes! Thats what I thought exactly. Its amazing how they were still able to have fun back then...I suppose Animals was still before the breaking point

The Learning to Fly PULSE performance always cracks me up. I always get a kick out of Guy Pratt's bass playing and Gary Wallis is hilariously energetic. And of course, you get a smug David at 4:24.

Smug David is awesome David -- he has the right to be a bit cocky.
One of the most funny moments IMO came during their May 9th, 1977 concert in Anaheim. They were doing Have A Cigar and both David and Roger started cracking up and laughing together while trying to sing the first verse, and considering how much they disliked each other at that time and how tumultuous that tour was, hearing the two of them giggling like school kids was funny but then also somewhat sad at the same time.
