Playing Early Floyd on Guitar - ASunInTheEast - 09-13-2009 06:09 PM
I really love to mess around with some of Floyd's early compostions; the Syd Barret era stuff. Especially, "Astronomy Domine", "Interstellar Overdrive", and "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun". Anybody else like to jam early Floyd stuff? Does anyone have any tips for getting that early Psychedlic sound?

O.k., no takers on that topic. What about slightly after Barrett stuff like "More", "Zabriskie", "UmmaGumma"?

So all you really need is a good vintage silicon fuzz and some delay.
I personally use a Rat and a Tubescreamer and wack on some delay usualy 350ms for the old stuff.

Just look up the tabs and learn to play whatever.... if u take lessons then do that every so often to break the monotony. Personally Ive never taken lessons i just looked up a bunch of tabs and kept practicing till i got good.

a boss DD3 , a rotovibe pedal and some tube driven overdrive. You need a slide to use like a violin bow to get those eerie orchestral sounds you hear on Echoes, Atom Heart Mother and Ummagumma.PM me me for dd3 setting for this trick from DG's bag of tricks.
You need a wah wah and to reverse the amp and instrument leads to make those sounds like electronic seagulls on live 'embryo' and 'echoes', then run it through a dd3 delay box.
I sometimes use it on my cd.s since no synth can make this sound.

That's mostly what I play (early Floyd). I love to play things from Piper to Meddle mostly. OBC and DSOTM too. Animals and The Wall here and there. But, usually never anything from AMLOR, Division Bell or Cut. I love those albums, but love to play early Floyd more.

Joe I completely agree with you there is a very thin line of difference between the two,.
