I downloaded this thing that scans your iTunes library and suggests artists:

Pink Floyd: Rush
Jewel: Bryan Adams
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Pearl Jam
Aerosmith, Deep Purple: AC/DC
The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Leonard Cohen: Bob Dylan
Bob Marley: Steel Pulse
David Gilmour, Richard Wright: Roger Waters
Roger Waters: David Gilmour
Tenacious D: Slayer
Ray Charles: B.B. King
John Coltrane: Sonny Rollins
Miles Davis: Chick Corea
Genesis: Yes
Radiohead: Arcade Fire
and something gave me Ozzy Osbourne

So, that leaves me with:

Bryan Adams
Sonny Rollins
Arcade Fire
Pearl Jam
Chick Corea
Yes
Steel Pulse
Ozzy Osbourne
Bob Dylan
AC/DC
B.B. King
Rush

I'm going to ignore the Slayer suggestion. I hate metal.
Do you guys recognize anybody on this list, if so, are they any good? I already know Bob Dylan, Yes and B.B. King. I know a couple of songs for AC/DC.

I recognize all of them. As for whether I think they're any good or not, that's not going to help you really, as that's my opinion. Listen to some of their songs, see what you like and what you don't.

Is the comparison close?

RE: iLike - Lady Floydian - 04-01-2011 04:35 PM

Somewhat, yes.

Bryan Adams: AVOID AT ALL COST
Sonny Rollins: idk
Arcade Fire: sure
Pearl Jam: avoid
Chick Corea: uh
Yes: absolutely
Steel Pulse: sure
Ozzy Osbourne: whatever
Bob Dylan: sure
AC/DC: whatever
B.B. King: sure
Rush: avoid

So far, I've heard Rush, BB King and Bob Dylan. They're all amazing.

I'm with forreverendgreen on Rush. They're......they're an acquired taste, let's put it that way.

RE: iLike - Joe - 04-02-2011 06:44 AM

What's wrong with Rush?

RE: iLike - Kimbers Sheep - 04-02-2011 09:21 AM

NOTHING...but that's just my opinion. Problem with most people is they've heard the popular RUSH songs and that's it, and to a degree the popular ones are good (although I do get it that Geddy's voice turns some off, but damn they are awesome musicians above and beyond the vocals), but to most RUSH fans they are not considered their best, but certainly their most mass/radio friendly ones. They are a bit like PF in the sense that you really need to listen to many, many of their songs to appreciate the evolution as well as discover some of the true gems that have never seen the light of day on radios. Some albums I recommend are 2112, Hemispheres (reminds me a bit of Meddle), Moving Pictures (minus Tom Sawyer, it's like Time, simply over played to death), and Test for Echo, then check out Caress of Steel (by far their least popular but The Necromancer is awesome)

Dude! I love Geddy's voice! I know they're a bit like PF. I just started listening to Signals, and I really like it. I'll listen to everything you mentioned as soon as I get my hands on their discography. Thanks Smile

Bryan Adams: OK, bit too poppy though
Sonny Rollins: Never really listened
Arcade Fire: Absolutely yes, probably the best band in the world at the moment
Pearl Jam: Definitely, sort of a Led Zeppelin of the 90s
Chick Corea: Very good
Yes: Hmm, I don't particularly like them, but lots of Floyd fans do
Steel Pulse: Never heard of them
Ozzy Osbourne: Ozzy solo no, Black Sabbath yes, I recommend the album 'Paranoid'
Bob Dylan: Yes, yes, yes. Best solo artist ever.
AC/DC: Just a great solid rock n' roll band. Bit cliched.
B.B. King: Nice blues, not my sort of thing, great smile.
Rush: See Yes ...

RE: iLike - forreverendgreen - 04-02-2011 02:36 PM

I've listened to a lot of Rush, mostly in my obsession with prog phase, and even then I hated it. They're still no Dream Theater, but I just cannot get into them at all.

RE: iLike - Lady Floydian - 04-02-2011 04:22 PM

To each their own obviously, but I do not like Rush at all. I don't like Geddy Lee's voice, and I can't say it's because of their songs being overplayed on the radio because I don't listen to terrestrial radio, and even when I did, I hardly heard them. I sought out their music to see if I would like it.....and I didn't.

Seems like you're describing Pink Floyd. Tongue
