Eclipse fade out contains The Beatles !!! - Tim Turan - 09-27-2011 07:17 AM

Listen very carefully during the fade out of "Eclipse". After the "There's no dark side of the moon really ..." dialogue you can hear "Ticket To Ride" by The Beatles being played by what sounds like a string section. It's absolutely "there", no doubt. This is on the new remaster and the 2003 and 1985 CD releases. Does this mean that DSOTM was mixed to a previously erased tape rather than a fresh reel?
I discovered this yesterday after purchasing the new double cd set. I noticed the fade out of "Eclipse" was longer than previous releases and investigated further and found this!!
Has anyone else noticed this, or am i slow on the uptake.

TT.

ps. i'm a mastering engineer. http://www.turanaudio.co.uk

The beatles were working in studio 2 at the time. I havent heard the latest stuff so i cant comment but theres a few bits in great gig in the sky aswell.

I was always under the impression that the piano mic just picked up the sound comming for the other studio.

That really would be odd, considering that by 1972, when DSOTM, including "Eclipse," was recorded, The Beatles had not recorded together for more than three years and they had been officially disbanded for two. The Beatles' last studio work together was complete by the end of the summer in 1969.

A bit slow on the uptake, I'm afraid - the info about this has been going around for years, much longer than I've been alive and I'll be 30 next year. Although it's always great when new fans come across stuff like that.

Im fairly certain that they were in studio 2 although i dont remember half as much as i used to i may be thinking of a diffrent album.

No, just 5 years off. Piper was recorded in 1967. At one point they were in the studios at the same time as The Beatles. PF were invited to watch The Beatles records "Lovely Rita."

DSOTM was recorded at the studios at Abbey Road, but by then The Beatles had been disbanded permanently for more than two years and no longer existed except as former bandmates each pursuing their individual careers. PF absolutely were not in the studios recording next door to The Beatles by that point.

There's also this guy named Roy Harper who was recording his own music while Pink Floyd was doing Have A Cigar. He was singing so loud all through the studios building that Roger flipped a table and walked out furiously. Consequently, the song has no vocals but Harper's voice can clearly be heard if you turn up the volume a bit.
