Gilmour alludes to a "Piper" boxset or similar? - Dyolf - 11-13-2011 05:09 AM

Dave, Roger and Nick (along with archived interviews with Rick) appeard on "In the Studio with Redbeard" talking about the DSOTM & WYWH immersion sets. Dave says that it's about time that they stopped being so "precious" with their unreleased material, seeing as most of it is available "in shit quality on the net". He also mentioned releasing Syd-era Floyd material (I'm assuming stuff like "Vegetable Man" and "Scream Thy Last Scream"), but this hasn't been mentioned on the Why Pink Floyd? website...... yet....

I think there are lots of stuff that should be officially released. Some time ago Nick was talking about a video anthology, that's something I'd pay a fortune for.

YES!

If they're going to do another box set similar to what they've done with Dark Side, WYWH and later on The Wall, I'd rather they do it with Animals than Piper. I'd love to find out that one of those gigs on the Animals tour was professionally recorded, or at least they have the soundboards from the Oakland gigs.

Yes, that would be awsome. Plenty of other artists have done this for their fans.

I agree totally. Although Piper is considered an important album in their back catalouge I think an Animals Immersion box set would be very interesting.

Nick said in his New York premiere interview that they were going to get all the latest releases out of the way then look at the earlier stuff becuase they had a bunch of recordings with Syd that were made before the band got signed and recorded Piper At The Gates Of Dawn

Cool. Be interesting if it happens.

As for an Animals immersion set - I don't see how Animals has enough unreleased tracks etc to go with it. We've already had "Raving and Drooling" and "You've Got to Be Crazy" in the WYWH set. I'm not entirely convinced that the album would offer much in 5.1 like DSOTM and WYWH can, and does.

For instance - did any of you know (prior to the DSOTM immersion boxset ot the '03 SACD) that "Eclipse" has Nick playing tubular bells on it? They're completely inaudible in the stereo mix but crystal clear in the 5.1.

I would really like a live Animals album (or entire show to include WYWH as well - which they should've included in the WYWH set). But I doubt they recorded every tour. They didn't record the Empire Pool show, the BBC did it.

At least with PATGOD there's at least an album's worth of unreleased stuff and I bet there are tons of photos of Syd and the band that are hidden away too.

If it were up to me they'd do immersion sets for PATGOD, Animals, TDB and maybe AMLOR. The latter 2 definitely have a lot of unreleased material and live stuff to include.

I also think instead of piss arsing about with the crap DVD included in TW immersion set they should just include the movie, then it truely would be immersing yourself in The Wall: album, live album and movie? - Hells yeah. Maybe even upgraded to 1080p for a BD.

I think the Floyd and or EMI have missed a trick in not releasing the Empire Pool show as a standalone live album, and not re-mastering DSOT and Pulse (and the live UG disc for that matter) & including them in the Discovery set.

Actually, I did. There's an EPK on YouTube they did for the album's 30th anniversary in connection with the SACD release, and Rick mentions that for the first time, he heard the tubular bells on that track. That was the first time that I had heard of that, because obviously, you can't hear them on the original mix.

As would I. If an official live recording was not made, I'd love to see them get their hands on the boot from May 9th in Oakland, and let James Guthrie work his magic on that. It's hard to imagine that recording getting any better, but you never know.

I don't know about any unreleased stuff from AMLoR, but I did read that they made a 20 min. or so instrumental piece of ambient music to be played before concerts during The Division Bell tour, though I'm not sure if that's the same thing as the "Soundscape" which is found on the P*U*L*S*E cassette. It might be, I'll have to check on that.

I'd love to see an Immesion box set fo each and evey album but I doubt that would happen

I agree, and if I had to choose, I'd choose the early material.

Yes it is. I have it as part of the unofficial "Treeful of Secrets" release.

Also, I think as part of this campaign they should release all their singles from "Arnold Layne" to High Hopes on a CD (the UK ones cos the US label forced them to release singles they didn't intend).

That would be cool, but wasn't there already a Piper At The Gates Of Dawn reissue? I know there was in fact. Don't have it though.

I think we'll see a Piper set before Animals. There's a ton of material available as far back as 1965, leading up to Piper that I think would be great to hear. Nick's mentioned a number of times in recent interviews that he would like to see that happen. I would probably lump up Piper and SOS as a package.

I'd be REALLY happy to listen to the 1965 material.
