Pink Floyd 2012 Tour Game - Dyolf - 11-26-2011 12:51 AM

Okay, I'm bored.... and I was listening to PULSE in work last night and got thinking, what would they play now? A lot has happened in the Pink Floyd world over the last decade....

There are some rules:

1. Has to be a relaistic length show
2. Must assume that Pink Floyd is Dave, Roger and Nick
3. You can choose the accompanying musicians
4. At least one song as a tribute to Rick

My guess:

Set 1

1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5 & 7)
2. Sheep / Pigs
3. Welcome to the Machine
4. Learning to Fly*
5. Sorrow*
6. On the Turning Away* / A Great Day for Freedom*
7. High Hopes*
8. The Happiest Days of Our Lives
9. Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)

Set 2

1. Astronomy Domine
2. Remember a Day (Rick tribute)
3. Arnold Layne / See Emily Play (Syd tribute)
4. Time
5. Wish You Were Here
6. Us and Them
7. Money
8. Hey You
9. Comfortably Numb

Encore

1. The Great Gig in the Sky / Careful With That Axe, Eugene**
2. Run Like Hell

* - assuming Roger will eat humble pie.
** - farewell tour, why not?

with:

Tim Renwick - guitars
Jon Carin - Keyboards
Gary Wallis - Percussion

There's too many songs they wouldn't be able to do without Rick, songs they wouldn't even dream of doing. They wouldn't do very many songs from when Roger had left the band, and I doubt they'd do any of the Syd material either, except maybe IO. I honestly wouldn't even know where to begin. They're all in their 60s now, and while the last time David went out on tour he sounded great, that was also 5 years ago. Who knows what he sounds like now. Roger's never had the best voice, and it's not like it has gotten eons better over the last 25 years or so.

Basically, I couldn't begin to put anything together.

Maybe a reproduction of their In The Flesh tour.

Set 1:
Happy Birthday To You
Encore:
Marry Had A Little Lamb

I don't know if I could cope with a two and a half hour version of Happy Birthday To You

Without Rick's synth work on those tracks, it'll sound like a pile of shit.

I think Jon Carin could handle Rick's parts pretty well.

Jon Carin isn't Rick Wright. My sister is a great pianist and could play The Great Gig In The Sky if you put the sheet music in front of her, but that doesn't mean I'd want her on stage with the rest of the band.

Jon Carin is a very capable musician, as evident by his presence on the last two PF solo tours and David's most recent solo tour, but that doesn't mean he plays or sounds like Rick.

RE: Pink Floyd 2012 Tour Game - Dyolf - 11-29-2011 12:53 AM

I know it wouldn't be quite the same without Rick but there isn't much that can be done about that.

And Jon Carin isn't Rick, no but does a very good immitation, as can be heard on "Learning to Fly" and some sections of The Division Bell. He has also toured with Floyd, Gilmour and Waters so knows the songs inside out and has spent enough time playing along side Rick to be able to pull it off.

Snowy White is no Gilmour, but that doesn't stop him from sounding like a superb mimic on Roger's The Wall Live tour.

My point is that with Rick gone, Carin would be the best person to play his parts and do most justice to Rick's parts in the songs.

I think Jon would do an excellent job as a substitute for Rick, like in this tribute;

He's also a good back up singer and indeed very much a part of Floyd by now. I'm sure Rick would aprove.
