my favorite is Comfortably Numb how about you guys?

- ha_ha_charade_you_are - 05-21-2006 08:21 AM

Dogs?

- Sir Frankie Crisp - 05-21-2006 08:38 AM

High Hopes?

For crying out loud, you've missed out damn near most of the good ones.

- ha_ha_charade_you_are - 05-21-2006 08:48 AM

Yeah, High Hopes is good too. I've been really obsessed with that song since seeing David play it last month.

- azza200 - 05-21-2006 10:37 AM

Comfortably Numb (DSOT, Live8, Pulse Knebworth 90)

Wheres On The Turning Away that song rocker

- Quincy - 05-21-2006 06:49 PM

Coming Back To Life?
Echoes?

- floydian72 - 05-21-2006 07:21 PM

you all may like different solos but comfortably numb is considered by many the best solo all time. i love it but i also love have a cigar solo, time, money, echoes etc

- azza200 - 05-22-2006 04:10 AM

Yeah the Money solo on Venice 89 and DSOT just rules. rocker rocker :p

- Sydney - 05-22-2006 04:14 AM

Hard choice between Comfortably Numb and Shine on You Crazy Diamond, but in the end had to go with Comfortably Numb. The guitar solo stands out more I think of Comfortably Numb, it's more of a signiture.

- Three Different Ones - 05-22-2006 05:15 AM

Where is Dogs?

- Components-A - 05-22-2006 06:02 AM

off that list...comfortably numb....But "Dogs" has some of my favorites

- whong - 05-22-2006 06:40 AM

A difficult poll, to be sure. Had 'Dogs' been an option, it would have been a little easier.......In the end, had to go with 'Shine On', as the whole spirit of the song was born out of Dave's famous "mournful" guitar phrase, and the fact that he's just sooooo damn good with the blues.

All those above listed tunes are really great in their own ways!

- Sir Frankie Crisp - 05-22-2006 11:59 AM

Out of the listed, I'd say Time.

High Hopes is better though.

- echoofseamus - 05-22-2006 12:35 PM

Live: Comfortably Numb (DSOT, listening to it right now)
Studio: Time (He never does it that good live)

- sjmcd - 05-23-2006 01:19 AM

Out of those songs I said Money - but overall I would say Astronomy Domine or maybe Interstellar Overdrive - although IO isn't so much a solo as free impro.

- Domine - 05-23-2006 01:29 PM

No one ever talks about the Hey You solo, probably because it's too short. Give it some props, along with Mother......

- Mattias_hallberg - 05-24-2006 09:45 AM

Of thees I think SOYCD

- Echoes73 - 05-26-2006 12:38 PM

i like the first solo on comfortably numb, but my favorite gilmour solo is On an island

Whistlinghmm I JUST CAN'T DECIDE?!

AAAAAAAAAAAARGGGRRGRG

RE: guitar solos - pick, you fav guitar solo - OlgaHH - 04-11-2009 03:16 AM

Author did right that there isn't Echoes in this pole!))) Well, from this list I choose Comfortalby numb. Its solo is so deep, like diving into water, tragic... Unreally beautiful and touching.

RE: guitar solos - pick, you fav guitar solo - Hey You Tribute - 04-11-2009 01:10 PM

I have to say Numb--

RE: guitar solos - pick, you fav guitar solo - zlcn90 - 04-12-2009 10:33 PM

I'll go with Money.

RE: guitar solos - pick, you fav guitar solo - silverpot - 04-13-2009 03:58 AM

RE: guitar solos - pick, you fav guitar solo - Monolith - 04-16-2009 07:38 AM

The one in Echoes.

RE: guitar solos - pick, you fav guitar solo - MacPhisto - 04-16-2009 04:51 PM

SOYCD, because it's the least boring one.

Good call, Echoes73. The second extended solo gets all the plaudits, but I prefer the first. It`s supremely expressive, where every note counts....what a non-indulgent instrumental break should be.

....Ditto the solo on The Final Cut (title track). Dripping with emotion....staccato, but totally unique.

RE: guitar solos - pick, you fav guitar solo - Jeff 2008 - 04-17-2009 07:54 PM

For me , the second solo on Comfortably Numb aleays turns my crank especially live .

RE: guitar solos - pick, you fav guitar solo - DJKalteraphine - 04-23-2009 12:38 AM

High Hopes is definitely my favorite solo, especially with the extended acoustic bit Dave's added for his solo sets.

Big nod for the really loud solo in Shine On, right before the vocals start; some of David's most powerful work.

I'm also a huge fan of both solos (especially the second) in Coming Back to Life. Very underrated, I think. People often overlook it in these discussions, even though it's one of the best.

RE: guitar solos - pick, you fav guitar solo - Lady Floydian - 11-16-2009 01:51 PM

I can't vote in the poll because there's too many missing.

However I can break it down live vs. studio

Live: Comfortably Numb on the P*U*L*S*E DVD comes close to proving the existence of a higher power.

Studio: Time

RE: guitar solos - pick, you fav guitar solo - FlashTheReadiesWotsUhTheDeal - 11-16-2009 06:23 PM

I would say my fav's are the solo's from Comfortably Numb or High Hopes.

High Hopes was one of the songs I felt was missing. That solo at the end, especially live, just sends a chill right up my spine. I love it. I just think for its place on the album and the fact it's on the last album.....there's something almost fitting about it.

RE: guitar solos - pick, you fav guitar solo - quicksilver - 11-17-2009 09:42 AM

Out of the songs listed I would go with Shine on. Just a great blend of regular and slide guitar...

However, the end of High Hopes probably moves me more than other solo. And, I'll never turn down a listen of David Gilmour's live version of "Murder" from the About Face tour....

Fat Old Sun has a great solo as well as Mother, Atom Heart Mother Suite, Dogs.
