My dad thinks Waiting for the Worms is like the creepiest song ever, but i think that Don't Leave Me Now is creepier. None of the songs are like evil or disturbing, like, say, Dinner at Deviant's Place by Cradle of Filths, but I'm just wondering what songs u guys think are sort of creepy. I bet you guys r glad i didn't do a poll.

Welcome to the machine is very creepy. I dont know why, it scares me.

- sea green queen - 12-24-2004 09:43 AM

They both are, Lucifer Sam will chase those thoughts away...

- Scream1008 - 12-24-2004 09:55 AM

i don't really like welcome to the machine. i don't get the lyrics and it s not very well sung, i think

- ///Floyd - 12-24-2004 11:22 PM

i dont know about creepy but empty spaces always gives me the willies. i think its the tone in his voice

- Kimbers Sheep - 12-25-2004 12:08 AM

I wouldn't say creepy..but I guess "Waiting..." and Welcome to the Machine" both kinda have a "weird" feel" to them...

- bak2life - 12-25-2004 02:16 AM

That middle part of Poles Apart is kind of scary. Poles Apart is such a fast and more of a (I think) uplifting beat, and then they put this circus-like part in the middle that is both weird and scary.

- Echo - 12-25-2004 03:06 AM

"Several Species..."
"Pow R. Toc H."
That song from Obscured, with the chanting...
"Welcome To The Machine"
"Pigs ( Three Different Ones )"
"The Trial"
"A New Machine" Parts 1 & 2

- dyolf_knip - 12-25-2004 12:52 PM

A Saucerful of Secrets!

Next Halloween i'm going to blast it out of my house and scare little children away! Santa

- Steve Hill - 12-25-2004 02:54 PM

I have to say out of all the songs mentioned here, (and the rest not), Welcome to the Machine has the most spine chilling feel to it. Even though it is about the music industry, it almost feels like it could be about life in general and it is saying that we are all part of the great myth that is society today.

- Madcap Laughs - 12-25-2004 07:34 PM

The first time I hear Welcome to the Machine it sent chills up my spine. It made me feel like we are all just meant to do one thing in our lives.

- Gilmour00 - 12-25-2004 11:35 PM

"Welcome To The Machine" is an awesome song, I don't get a creepy vibe from it at all.

- Echo - 12-26-2004 12:00 AM

The way I see it, creepy and awesome aren't mutually exclusive anyway.

- Steve Hill - 12-26-2004 09:06 AM

Agreed, it's the same way hearing one of your favourite songs sends a chill up your spine. It doesn't mean you find it scary or strange, just that it triggers a reaction in your mind. Anyway, I think we must seperate creepy sounding and creepy. It sounds creepy, but that means nothing.

It's crap. 7 minutes of NOTHING - much like the horrendous Quicksilver.

- Sigma6 - 12-27-2004 08:30 AM

I think One Of These Days because Im being told that I will be cut into little pieces :Oo:

- BritRowBrickCo - 12-27-2004 10:54 AM

careful with that axe eugene

"Pow R. Toc H."
That song from Obscured, with the chanting...
"Welcome To The Machine"
"Pigs ( Three Different Ones )"
"The Trial"
"A New Machine" Parts 1 & 2
all these songs are sort of creepy (except Pow R. Toc H.), but i don't know that Poles Apart thing, what's that from?

Anyway, a runner-up for a creepy song for me is from the album i got 4 christmas, Piper. I think Interstellar Overdrive is pretty creepy because i was listening to it at night at it gave me frightening images in my brain. Also my crazy cousin thought that the part at the end of Bike was creepy with the door creaking open and the (whatever it is) at the very end.

I think that Sysyphus pt.III is the best for that!!!

- Halfsteel - 12-29-2004 04:23 PM

Goodbye Blue Sky (creepy with lyrics and music)
-and-
The Show Must Go On (creepy Lyrics)
-also-
(I concur with) Empty Spaces (creepy music)

also someone said Dont Leave Me Now

- FreakyChild13 - 12-31-2004 10:27 PM

Creepiest song ever -- one of my turns... if you see the part on the movie that goes with this .. you'll understand why... hammers

- Meg - 01-01-2005 12:21 AM

My favourites:
Pow R. Toc H.
Careful with that axe Eugene
A saucerful of secrets (that organ at the first part of the song! Creepy and beautiful)
Sysyphus
This is the typical and intrigueing Pink Floyd sound I vaguely remember at the end of the sixties (from 1967) till DSOTM. Scaring but exiting.

Yeah, i guess i'm the only one who finds it kind of scary. But I still think it is. :D

- carefulwiththataxeEugene - 01-01-2005 04:54 PM

Careful With That Axe, Eugene is pretty damn creepy, especially considering the chick (read: Roger) screams right after Eugene is told to be careful...obviously something went dreadfully wrong there...

- powrtoch66 - 01-01-2005 05:01 PM

what about Syphus Part IV when after 3 minutes of the mellotron it gets quiet then out of nowhere Rick slams the piano at such a loud volume that it gos well with rainy drippy nights in mansions.

- Echo - 01-01-2005 05:24 PM

I hate that part. It always makes me jump.

- A Saucerful of Secrets - 01-01-2005 08:02 PM

For me it is:

"Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict".

My opinion: BEAUTIFUL!

- BusStopRatBag - 01-02-2005 02:40 PM

Waiting for the worms is a part of the facist segment of the wall...so it is evil...if you listen to it close enough.

- Scream1008 - 01-02-2005 06:27 PM

u know what i think thew creepiest song ever is? That "No Quarter" song by Led Zeppelin.

- carefulwiththataxeEugene - 01-02-2005 08:32 PM

BusStopRatBag Wrote:Waiting for the worms is a part of the facist segment of the wall...so it is evil...if you listen to it close enough.
It's not so much the song that is evil...it's a satire. But the ideas expressed, and knowing that there are folk who feel that way, make the song rather creepy.

- carefulwiththataxluke - 02-05-2005 08:49 AM

Don't leave me now, & the middle part of Echoes has always struck me as creepy.

- Wanna Take A Bath? - 02-05-2005 04:55 PM

the end part of speak to me where the person screams is creppy

- roy33m - 02-05-2005 06:58 PM

I dont really find any creepy, but "One of These Days" is weird, doesnt really sound like Pink Floyd. Great Song nevertheless. :;):

Yes it is

- Julia Dream - 02-06-2005 06:20 AM

i agree with you about Quicksilver...but i happen to like Welcome to the Machine. there is nothing wrong with the singing and the lyrics make perfect sense.
i forward that one as a scary song, along with Careful with that Axe Eugene, Saucerful of Secrets and Time. i once made the mistake of my life by listening to Saucerful in the middle of winter just after it had gone dark - and there were no lights on in the house.

- Penumbra - 02-06-2005 06:35 AM

I find "One of these days" to be the creepiest. Who cares who it sounds like, the wind, the distorted gongs and chimes make you feel alone, and as if something is coming up behind you. That "something" culminates in a freaky chopped up voice saying it'll cut you up! THAT'S PRETTY DAMN FREAKY!
:upside:

- Skavenger - 02-06-2005 11:13 AM

Careful With That Axe, Eugene
Don't Leave Me Now
The "bird call" in Echoes
The "Ahhh..Ahhhh" part in Atom Heart Mother
Sysphus IV--a weird "bang"

- Julia Dream - 02-06-2005 03:08 PM

that reminds me - movement no. 5 of Atom Heart Mother. sounds like a chipmunk in a food processor.

- would you like something to eat - 02-09-2005 05:55 PM

no quarter is kinda creepy...just the way robert plant sings it, with the effects on his voice

and have you ever listened to welcome to the machine really loud in your car? it feels like something is pressing against you from all sides, it's creepy and cool at the same time

and yeah, one of these days is the freakiest

i hear ya! i'm very scared of clowns and that doesn't exactly do wonders for me haha. i love the song otherwise though. and i'd hafta say (even though it's possibly my fav song on the wall) goodbye blue sky has an eerieness to it. even the happy parts hah. and yeah empty spaces is up there.

- aserty - 02-11-2005 02:54 PM

The "whale" solo in Echoes scared me the first tiem I listened to it.

'Empty Spaces' really scared me the first time I heard all of it. I was alone, and it was well into the dark night when it came over the radio.

Whoa, you took that a little TOO far.

And saying "it's crap" like it's fact won't help your argument. if you simply don't like it, well that's fine; but you're missing out. :;):

If a song gives me chills down my spine the first time I listen to it, I know it'll be a song that I listen to for years to come. If music can move one in that way, it must emotionally impactful to oneself.

When the Tigers Broke Free was this kind of song for me. I got chills at four different times consectuvily during that song the first dozen times I listen. One of These Days basically got me hooked on Floyd years ago (I was pretty surprised at that demon-ish voices declaring it'd cut me into peices... so cool though), so I'm pretty attached to that song to this day.

More chilling songs:
Careful With That Axe, Eugene (Pompeii version only)
A Saucerful of Secrets (Pompeii and studio)
Jugband Blues - The words and the way they are used and then sung by Syd is just brilliant!
Echoes - chilling in a beautiful way.

Bike at the end of the song :Oo:

- Asherman - 08-01-2006 01:50 AM

i actually thought that 'careful with that axe, eugene' was kinda creepy

- I love Pink - 08-01-2006 02:00 AM

ya it kinda is ,i was lisening to that album one night and i was dead a sleep and i woke up at like 2 and it was a school night and it creepted me out so bad cause i was like in 1st grade

- whong - 08-01-2006 05:02 AM

The middle section of "The Narrow Way" is pretty eerie, I've always thought. Another one is by Rush, called "The Necromancer", which is an awesome epic, and the first bit of it really fits the bill as being ominous and creepy.

- pic3789 - 08-01-2006 05:30 AM

the first time i heard CWTAE, i was pretty confused. all i could think was "why is the only 'lyric' a really loud scream? as i listened to it more i realized that it was completely genius!

pic3789 Wrote:the first time i heard CWTAE, i was pretty confused. all i could think was "why is the only 'lyric' a really loud scream? as i listened to it more i realized that it was completely genius!
I love CWTAE, but it freaked me out the first time I heard it. Besides this song and Great Gig, I can honestly say that no other Floyd songs really freaked me out or made me scared. The songs that you guys have mentioned here like Welcome To The Machine & Empty Spaces never really scared me. I agree that they are both eerie songs, but I'd go with Floyd's 1968-1970 experimental period that included songs that were eerie/scary.

- IbanezIsTheColour - 08-01-2006 11:25 AM

CWTAE on Pompeii is a little creepy, but still really good.
I guess WFTM is kinda creepy, but I dont like the Nazi symbolism it has glare

One Of These Days terrifies me. Just the whole "One of these days I'm going to cut you into tiny little pieces".

Ahh yup.

- sjmcd - 08-02-2006 05:59 AM

Several Species played backwards

I just tried it to see if I could find the backwards message, but I never found it - tried slowing it down and everything - but after hearing Roger's shouting at the end played backwards, I think I'm scarred for life :O

The "lord's prayer" in Sheep is pretty damned freaky sounding

Is There Anybody Out There?

The opening really makes you feel alone and vulnerable, then the following music helps you settle into those emotions.

I actually don't mind it. As for the lyrics, my interpretation (which is open for debate, by the way) is the actual "manufacturing" of rock stars by the music industry.
Telling them how to think: "What did you dream? It's alright we told you what to dream...", how to act: "You bought a guitar to punish your ma, And you didn't like school, and you know you're nobody's fool...", etc.
Sort of like Have A Cigar, but more sinsister.

As for a creepy song, the part of Echoes that has the 'scream' always send shivers down my spine, as well as Psalm 23 twisted around in Sheep. It sounds dememted and very manic.

- Ashgood - 08-20-2006 04:38 PM

"Waiting For The Worms" is a very disturbing racial song, and if I had my way, I dont think I would have put it on "The Wall", or any of the songs which were nazi related.
Though, it is part of the whole rise and decline of the musician "pink floyd", I dont think it was very necassary to make Pink a nazi... rocker

I like the song too. I never found it scary actually. I love the synths that Rick uses on this song. They just appear and drown your senses (when you listen to it with headphones).

Easiest song of Floyd's to play on guitar.....acoustic, that is.
You can even take liberties on it, and it still sounds great!

- TattooedAlltheWay - 08-28-2006 05:59 AM

The dark and erie feeling brought on by Welcome To The Machine is meant to be JUST THAT, dark and erie.......meant to show caution, fear, and urgency.....

and Rog sings like that for a reason, he always has a reason...

and i personally find The Dogs of War to be overpoweringly eye opening......even scary and frightening.....
