Not necessarily your over all favorite album, but the one that is getting a lot of play time recently.

For me it's Wish You Were Here. I've listened to that albume a whole lot in the past week or so. I've always really liked that album, but for some reason it just never clicked with me completely. A few days ago when I listened to it I just seemed to really feel it emotionally for the first time. I'm really starting to like this album a whole lot more.

What Pink Floyd album are you currently listening to the most?

- IbanezIsTheColour - 12-20-2006 03:28 PM

I wouldn't say it's my current favorite, but I'm starting to like The Final Cut more.

- FreshBrains - 12-20-2006 03:30 PM

I've gotten a lot more appreciation for The Wall recently.

- Buckethead - 12-20-2006 03:55 PM

I've been giving Obscured By Clouds many spins recently, as well as A Momentary Lapse of Reason

I really need to listen to Obscurred By Clouds soon. I love it, but I always seem to forget about it for long periods of time.

- Wings on the Pig - 12-21-2006 02:14 AM

Well, recently I have been enjoying the Wall more and more. Not my favourite album, but it is creeping up there.

- some_jackass - 12-21-2006 07:32 AM

Due to discussions recently, I have been listening to "Relics" a great deal these past two weeks. Thanks for reminding me.
That guy is right. "Bidding My Time" was a long forgotten gem. I recorded the L.P. to disc to gave it new life.

I love BMT. I don't like Relics as a whole, partly because it mixes up older, Syd-style tracks with newer, Roger/Dave/Rick-style ones and partly because it includes the studio versions of IO and CWTAE, but BMT alternates between being my favourite and second-favourite track on Relics (it depends on my mood; if I'm feeling really depressed I like The Nile Song better because it cheers me up, otherwise I prefer BMT).

- FreshBrains - 12-21-2006 12:02 PM

Meddle. I don't listen to A Pillow Of Winds or Seamus much, but the other songs are all amazing to me.

- SCarnes - 12-22-2006 05:14 PM

For the past few months, since August I have listened mostly to Wish You Were Here and The Wall (album and live). Occasionally I have listened to some Dark Side of the Moon. I just put the cd in, press play, and let the music drown out the world.

Been kind of revisiting ASFOS lately. I absolutely love "Let There Be More Light" and "Remember A Day"....what killer early songs! The versions here of ASFOS and STCFTHOTS are much better in their developed live versions, with a big nod to Roger's live version of the latter....but it's interesting to see how well the band improved upon them over time. And who can deny the prophetic brilliance of "Jugband Blues"?

- carefulwiththataxluke - 12-25-2006 01:39 PM

hammers As much as I love almost everything that is Pink Floyd The Wall will always be the ultimate in my book. hammers

I've been listening to all of Floyd's stuff recently, Dark Side still my fave tho. I'm gaining a whole new appreciation for Time, Money, and Us And Them.

The Wall all the way. among roger's greatest work with pink floyd. here's a list of what I think I like most

1. The Wall
2. Dark Side of the Moon
3. Meddle
4. Saucerful of secrets

But I'm listening to it for the first time in the while now, so really, my movable favourite does change from time to time.

- mabewa - 12-30-2006 07:01 PM

At the moment, it's "Wish You Were Here." I didn't listen to it for a while, and when I went back to it, I really noticed how majestic it is, especially SoyCD in its entirety. Unfortunately, it was the last time that Roger, Dave and Rick really wrote something all together, but it really captures the sound of three geniuses working together.

Piper at the gates of dawn

or ...

The Final Cut, it's an underrated album but I think it's fantastic!

Personally "Dark Side of the Moon" is my favorite. Maybe because we played the hell out of it college.
Lately I've been listening to "Wish You Were Here" the most.

I recently launched a website that features a vintage 2-hour radio special that ran on network radio in 2000 and celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the release of "Wish You Were Here". It's hosted by Alan Parsons. Here' s a link to it, you can listen to it here -
http://www.classicrockcentral.com/classic_rock_programs-PF.cfm

I hope you enjoy it. So I guess they are now both my faves.

Latly, I've been listening to the newer albums put out by Pink Floyd. Like, The Division Bell, The Final Cut, etc.

But my most listened to of all time is most likly Meddle, or Wish You Were Here.

Don't really care for the Wall. Way to personal and doesn't really have a good balence between music and lyrics. Good in a trippy way though.

- whong - 04-10-2007 11:07 AM

Lots of 'Obscured By Clouds' lately. I go long periods between listening to it, which is good.......as when I get back to it again eventually, I'm just blown away by it all over again. A nice cycle that I enjoy, probably moreso with OBC than any other Floyd album.

At the moment it's The Division Bell but if we were including solo albums Borken China would be top. My favorite album does change though as it was WYWH for a while and before that TFC for a week and before that DSOTM for ages.

- MacPhisto - 08-31-2007 04:45 AM

I've been experiencing sudden bouts of appreciation for Atom Heart Mother. It was the first album I listened to, and hence it was my favourite.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Some Other Jackass - 11-05-2009 12:14 PM

The Wall perhaps for obvious reasons but it has always been my favorite. Oh The Final Cut makes strides to displace The Wall from the number one spot but ultimately The Wall remains nummer einz.
Some of you may recall that some months ago, I stitched together selections from the Music From The Film Pink Floyd The Wall r.o.i.o. and the studio release to create a mad scientist's hybrid of The Wall. Some of the recordings from the movie soundtrack like Geldof singing "In The Flesh!" and "Stop" and recordings of Vera Lynn singing "We'll Meet Again" and "The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot" pieced together with studio versions of the songs.
Also listening to the Live In Berlin selections of songs from The Wall and later in the week, Is There Anybody Out There - The Wall Live.
A few weeks early for the official release anniversary but I was in the mood.

I've never heard of Animals being described as "calming" before.

Well, I would consider both Pigs on the Wing parts calming, as well as the beginning and later parts of Sheep, but you're pretty much right.

I can understand POTW being described as mellow, but Dogs, Sheep and Pigs (Three Different Ones) have never been songs I've seen as particularly calming or soothing or even simple.

Right now A Momentary Lapse of Reason is my favorite. I've been listening to it a lot, both the studio album and then the songs performed live. In a couple days it may be something else. That's what I love about Pink Floyd - you can't have just one favorite.

I've actually been listening to alot of the "live" stuff , mostly PULSE , so I guess that means I've also been listening to alot of Darkside as well .

I'm going to get things thrown at me, but The Final Cut.
The story is touching, the emotion is gut-wrenching, and musically it's very interesting. It's not my favorite overall, but it's my favorite at the moment.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - SeanM - 04-02-2010 06:27 PM

I've been listening to The Wall a lot recently. I was reading the interpretation to it, and I understand the album much more, I also keep listening and picking up new things I didn't notice before, and connecting everything.

I remember when I first heard it a few years back I didn't really like it because I thought there was a lot of filler. But now I understand and love those songs.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - azimuth - 04-03-2010 02:37 PM

Listening to a lot of live boots lately. Especially Complete Concertgebow, 1969 and The Wall, at Nassau Coliseum, 1980. Excellent stuff!

Recently, Obscured By Clouds.

All of Rick's singing is just. <33333

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 06-10-2010 09:07 AM

I especially loved Rick's voice on Burning Bridges and Stay. Especially Stay. It's too bad he didn't sing more after Dark Side of the Moon.....he had a very good voice. Not as strong/powerful as David's or as emotional as Roger's but it's not like he sang like Britney Spears or something.

Delicate Sound of Thunder has been on a regular rotation both on my turntable and on my iPod this week.

Animals is my favorite album. There was a good two month period where it never left my car CD player. I have been listening to The Division Bell quite a bit lately, though.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 06-13-2010 04:15 PM

Animals is a great album -- I was listening to it last night. Of course, much like that funny scene in WKRP in Cincinnati where Gordon Jump's character can't find where the barking dog noise is coming from on the turntable, my sister came in and asked if our dog was outside barking to be let back in the house.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - hunter21291 - 06-14-2010 12:14 AM

Haha that's funny. My friend said he'd listen to Dogs in his house really loud and his dogs would go crazy over the barking and whistling.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Floydy - 06-15-2010 12:01 AM

I listened to The Final Cut last night for the first time in God knows how long, still chokes me up in some places.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 06-15-2010 07:27 AM

I can't remember the last time I listened to The Final Cut -- I don't even own it. I have one song off the album on my iPod, but that's it.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Floydy - 06-15-2010 07:41 AM

I only listen to The Final Cut once or twice a year. I'm going to listen to Animals tonight when I go to sleepy-poo's

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 06-16-2010 04:49 AM

Dark Side of the Moon is my current fave right now. My sister and I went out to dinner last night and she bet me $10 I wouldn't play a song off the album on the jukebox in the restaurant and when I noticed they had Time.....well.....I won me some cash. LOL

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Floydy - 06-16-2010 07:04 AM

Lol. And my parents kept on telling me "Pink Floyd will never earn you any money"

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 06-16-2010 04:17 PM

I couldn't help myself. I never hear Time on the radio and I did not want to hear Money for the 9 bazillionth time.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - shockwave6668 - 07-03-2010 10:04 PM

Listening to the Gilmor-era Floyd, plus Obscured by Clouds right now. The album is a little mixed compared to Meddle and everything after it. But still decent and relaxing. I've been listening to also the 3 disc version of Pulse. Decent live stuff in there. Nostalgic! And of course Animals. I used to listen to The Wall all the time, now checking it out less and less. But still love it!

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 07-04-2010 12:59 PM

The Division Bell. I've been listening to it a lot this week.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - hunter21291 - 07-04-2010 11:37 PM

I've been listening to A Momentary Lapse of Reason a lot lately. I used to disregard it, but now I can't stop listening to it. I know it's not so Floyd sounding and is essentially a Gilmour solo album, but I love listening to it. The lyrics of Learning to Fly, the saxophone in The Dogs of War, the guitar solo in On the Turning Away, and the composition of Yet Another Movie; I just love this album.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - codayo61 - 07-05-2010 01:43 PM

Recently ive been listening to Wish You Were Here a lot. Maybe its Roy Harpers appearance on Have a Cigar, maybe its Rick's haunting solo in Welcome to The Machine or the sax towards the end of Shine on but Im so hooked!

That's the beauty of Floyd! When I got into them (not him!) every album took time to wear on me. However, after every listen the album at the time got better and better! I didn't like half of Dark Side or Animals or even Division Bell when I first listened to them, but over time the albums as a whole are just majestic! I agree, Wish is a lot of fans' favorites. But I think if people took more time and listened to Animals, final cut, Gilmour-era they'll be just as good!

Nice! Great albums. Besides the given three albums on favorite lists (DSOTM, WYWH and TW) Meddle, Animals and the final cut are so tight! Also The Gilmour-era albums are wearing on me more and more, as is Obscured.

Listening the Childhood's End now. Definitely the best of the album! Instrumentals are a plus too.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 07-10-2010 12:48 PM

Burning Bridges to me is the best song on the album. That song was the reason I had to go buy it.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - silverpot - 07-10-2010 02:46 PM

I've been listening to Ummagumma recently, it's interesting in a historical kind of way. The Narrow Way is really pointing towards their future sound and musical arrangement, as is some parts of Sysyphos.
I didn't appreciate this album much when it came out ( the studio disc), and I still don't, musically, but now I can appreciate it as a milestone in the direction they took after Syd left and they became a progressive rock band.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 07-10-2010 04:44 PM

Ummagumma is alright, at least to me. I like the live disc and I like The Narrow Way, but that's about it.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - shockwave6668 - 07-10-2010 10:43 PM

Ummagumma was never a huge listen for me. I will say that live disc is good, the studio disc is just too out there for me. Same with Atom Heart Mother. Even though the title track is interesting at times and so's the song "IF".

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Pulsar_P2 - 07-25-2010 02:45 AM

Atom Heart Mother is my favourite at the moment.
The only album I just can't seem to "get into" is The Division Bell, which I bought on the day of its first release.

Animals is pretty impossible to beat, tbh. I mean, I love The Wall 'n' all, but sometimes when I listen to it I just want to slap Roger.

Sheep is basically the single best piece of music this band has ever done.

The Dark Side of the Moon. I haven't listened to it in a while because I like to rotate them to avoid listening to one substantially more than another, thus getting sick of it, so I've enjoyed hearing it again.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 02-22-2011 07:42 AM

Never heard of it. Listening to it now~ what does this have anything to do with the kazoo or Floydy?
oh the kazoo just came in. nice!

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 02-22-2011 09:58 AM

It's an inside joke between a few of us re: Floydy and the kazoo.

I totally forgot about the context of that post. I thought we were talking about David Laughing

Such a damn good album. Flaming is by far my favorite on the album. So zany.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Joe - 02-22-2011 03:24 PM

Flaming and The Gnome are my two favourites.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 02-22-2011 04:08 PM

If it doesn't bother you, could you explain?

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 02-22-2011 04:16 PM

I don't really care for PATGoD. It's not my aesthetic. Astronomy Domine and Interstellar Overdrive are the only two songs I really enjoy listening to off that album, particularly because the latter is an instrumental and the former's lyrics are that naff.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Joe - 02-22-2011 04:34 PM

I don't know what I'm to explain, but I'll try.

I like Syd's voice. I like the psychedelia in Flaming, I like the positive sarcastic vision. It's always good to escape reality and jump into a world of unicorns, scarlet skies and clouds of blue. The Gnome touches me, and that's what matters. Matilda Mother and Lucifer Sam both have really good riffs. Chapter 24 reminds me of Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun. Interstellar Overdrive gives me goosebumps. The only song I'm not very fond of are Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk.

ps PATGoD is Piper at The Gates of Dawn.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 02-22-2011 05:06 PM

noooo I mean the inside joke about Floydy.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 02-22-2011 05:16 PM

It has to do with Pink Lloyd, which is too ridiculous to explain properly. Kind of like the oyster joke and apple pie with no crust from Live at Pompeii. You just had to be there. Laughing

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 02-22-2011 05:22 PM

what thread is that from? is it recent?

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 02-22-2011 05:28 PM

It's not that recent, no. We had a thread going in the main section about Pink Lloyd. Like I said, it can't really be explained. We were all being ridiculous and stupid and silly. It doesn't matter anyway.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 02-22-2011 05:30 PM

whos Pink Lloyd?

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 02-22-2011 06:14 PM

Some silly doppleganger group to Pink Floyd. Like I said, it can't really be explained. You'd have to have been here. We get a lot of spambots, and we were funning on one of them (before the mods told us to stop doing that) and Pink Lloyd was born. We've since retired the Lloyd, though.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 02-22-2011 06:18 PM

awww
sounds like you guys had some fun

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - hunter21291 - 02-22-2011 08:48 PM

I don't get the disdain for Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk. Sure, it's very random and doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but I'd be damned if it's not a fun song to listen to. If you compare that to Two Suns in the Sunset, you wouldn't believe that's the same person who wrote those songs. It's just the band, and most importantly (to me anyway) Roger, having a great time and jamming out. It's my second favorite song on the album.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Joe - 02-23-2011 01:32 AM

Where is Floydy?

I'm going to give it another listen, hunter. I'm a big fan of having fun and jamming out. I love Corporal Clegg.

Edit: Okay, it's good. Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk is good. Bike is also good.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 05-01-2011 10:56 AM

I've been listening to The Dark Side of the Moon a lot lately. It's just one of those albums that you listen to and the whole world just shuts down until it's over. I like that.

I love all their albums and what I find tends to get me into an album for some time is my access to it. like I have some albums on Itunes and on vinyl but some (such as animals) I don't have on vinyl or much on Itunes. This makes it so I don't listen to it over and over and I tend to stick with an album for weeks :PPPPPP Theres something that affects me....

Keep looking out for the LP's you don't have, there's heaps of them out there that are good value.
Then there are the ones that are good if money is no problem, like

http://www.elusivedisc.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MFSL%201-202

I've never done the Itunes thing, maybe I'm a bit to old for that.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 05-02-2011 09:05 PM

Oh man those are pretty expensive!!! Itunes is a rip off you can get the same files for free online (as long as your wary of bit rate and quality) but you can never get the quality that LP's give: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eC6L3_k_48&feature=fvwrel . My dad is getting records from an auction where he has bought at least 800 records in 2 purchases haha

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - wet dream - 05-03-2011 04:30 AM

That's interesting,
It looked like a fairly average TT, cartridge and tone arm.

Good luck at the auction, good Floyd LP are always sort after, all over the world.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Joe - 05-10-2011 01:15 PM

I've never really given that album any attention at all. I actually tend to forget it. I'm going to put it on my list.

It's a shame when such great albums are forgotten by the group's own fans.

lol it sure would be shame. Unfortunetly I would plead guilty if charged :( I was naming Pink Floyd albums before and forgot about it! Well I also forgot about 'More' as well. To be honest, I havn't heard any of the songs on OBC... Any suggestion? Whats your favorite tracks LF?

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 05-11-2011 09:09 AM

The whole album really, but the four stand-out tracks in my mind are Burning Bridges (why they never did this live, I'll never know), Mudmen, Childhood's End, and Stay.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 05-11-2011 10:38 AM

Ok I'll check it out.... Sweet so I just checked them out. My favorite is Childhoods End. I loved how the lyrics and how they went along with the music. I had trouble finding Burning Bridges on youtube and else where. Mudmen didn't stand out but I'm sure it will in time.... Stay is nice and relaxing. I enjoyed it.

I think I can say I find OBC much better than More.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Joe - 05-11-2011 10:45 AM

As far as I know, More was done as a film soundtrack. Might be why it's a tad bit off. Burning Bridges and Childhood's End never cease to amaze me. Stay sounds a lot like The Narrow Way.

Hm its very slow and casual (not in a bad way). Nice. I liked Childhood's End the best.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Cabbage Love - 05-12-2011 09:59 AM

I think about half of Obscured by Clouds is really good. Esp Childhood's End, Mudmen and Absolutely Curtains. The other half is a bit meh. But it's ok.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 05-12-2011 10:47 AM

One must keep in mind that it is a soundtrack and sound track songs and albums are made differently than normal songs or albums.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 05-12-2011 12:15 PM

OBC was more "rock" than anything they'd done up to that point. It was a great indicator of the kinds of music they'd be making on later albums.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Arno Sluismans - 05-13-2011 03:33 AM

I've always considered OBC to have a very bluesy touch to it. Granted, David's solos always have some blues, but on that album it extends to entire songs.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 05-13-2011 05:38 AM

Absolutely -- just listen to his solos/guitar work in Burning Bridges and its instrumental counterpart, Mudmen.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Cabbage Love - 05-13-2011 08:02 AM

Yea, the bluesy guitars on OBC are great. I also really like the laid back wah stuff he does on Stay.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 05-13-2011 08:12 AM

OBC really shows what kind of versatile guitarist David is.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Arno Sluismans - 05-13-2011 08:33 AM

I'm actually talking about way more than solos... The blues on OBC comes from way more than just David's guitars.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 05-13-2011 09:25 AM

All I know is that David's guitar style is very spacey and has a big blues influence. Not just in certain songs but altogether in his career. From that he made his own sound. By the time of OBC I'm sure he was evolving his style quite a bit with the greater role in the band he's taken.

Oh, absolutely. It's the closest they ever came to a blues rock album.

Rick has the blues.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 05-13-2011 01:54 PM

Rick was influenced more by jazz than the blues. Any blues influence in Pink Floyd's music came from David.

Ehhhhhhh, that's totally not true. Just because David is the one who is naturally influenced by it, doesn't mean the others can't create blues. Just look at Obscured By Clouds.

Rick himself said that his main influences were jazz-based. I didn't make that up. When they were interviewed for the Classic Albums DVD on the making of The Dark Side of the Moon, Rick was discussing how he came up with the chord sequence in Breathe, and mentioned that jazz was his main influence and that he had been listening to Kind of Blue by Miles Davis (a landmark jazz album) at the time.

I never said that Rick couldn't play the blues, I said that the blues weren't his main influence -- jazz was. The blues were David's main influence, though we can clearly see throughout their catalog that he could play various other styles as well.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Arno Sluismans - 05-17-2011 09:45 AM

I'm quite sure Roger deliberately tried not to be influenced all too much by others, and to just do his thing. I have never read about anything that might have influenced him either - apart from his own experiences in life.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - silverpot - 05-17-2011 12:27 PM

I actually hear a lot of English Music Hall influences in Roger's music, especially certain parts of The Wall and TFC.

I'm gonna say orchestra and spectral classic music.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Joe - 05-24-2011 10:26 AM

I tried to give it another shot. I hate the excessive guitar solos. I loved the keyboard solos, and I absolutely hated the concept...mainly because I didn't understand it. The lyrics are weird, and the whole thing is too dramatic.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 05-24-2011 12:17 PM

I thought the concept behind the album was rather easy to pick out, at least opposed to some of their other albums.

AMLOR is definitely an album that grows on you, I think. I hated it at first, but now it's one of my favorites. Sure, the lyrics aren't very good (Hand of fate that seemed to fit just like a glove? Really?), but the music and Dave's singing is amazing. The eerie synethsizer in Signs of Life, David's soothing voice on Learning to Fly, the bitchin' saxaphone solo in The Dogs of War, the funky bass line in One Slip, the guitar playing in On the Turning Away (the only good part of the song, IMO), the fantastic drumming in Yet Another Movie, the creepy lyrics of A New Machine that segue beautifully into Terminal Frost (listen to that song with some good speakers. They do A LOT of cool stuff in that song), and you can't mention AMLOR without David's magnum opus, Sorrow.

I could go on and on about how much I love AMLOR. A vastly underrated album.

A Momentary Lapse of Reason is one of two Floyd albums I still don't own, More being the other one. And I haven't heard it for some twenty years. As soon as I find a decent vinyl copy of it I will buy it. The two or so songs that made it to the TDB tour are really good.

Totally agree. The album was never meant to be better than work they did when Roger was in the band, it was meant to be exactly what it was -- evidence they could at least write and perform (and then tour) an album without him. When you view it in that context, it really is a damn good album.

Yes the lyrics are bit hackneyed in some spots, but after about two or three albums of getting very intense, very strident lyrics shoved down our throats, the lightness of these lyrics was refreshing. No more bitching about government, war, capitalism or the like.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 05-29-2011 07:19 PM

I would say that both simple lyrics (such as in the song Cildhood's End) and deep philosophical lyrics (such as almost everything Roger has written lol) are satisfying. Maybe I'm just easy, in that sense xD

Recently been listening to The Final Cut, but since I only like a few songs (The Gunner's Dream, The Final Cut, Not Now John, The Post War Dream) it doesn't really hold my attention very long.

I usually listen to Saucerful frequently, for the mix of Barrett influenced floyd and the darker early '70's floyd, with some Wright jazz thrown in with See-Saw

The final cut is decent

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - GoFloyd - 06-04-2011 12:18 AM

On the plane from NY to LA I listened to Dark Side Of The Moon Album 4 times in the row, so I guess by default its my current favorite album.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Joe - 06-04-2011 11:10 AM

What do you guys think of More? I just gave it a listen with an open mind, and I actually like it a lot.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 06-04-2011 12:05 PM

I think it's good for what it is; a movie soundtrack. I wouldn't say it's one of their best in terms of comparing it to albums of original material. I love Cymbaline, Green Is The Colour, and The Nile Song, but that's about it.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Joe - 06-04-2011 04:43 PM

I loved every track but More Blues.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 06-04-2011 08:59 PM

The only song that stood out for me was Ibiza Bar

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Joe - 06-05-2011 02:45 PM

Correction, the only song I don't like is actually Ibiza Bar, I misstated the names. Please listen to Up The Khyber, Main Theme and Quicksilver with an open ear. They're like primitive versions of A Saucerful of Secrets. More Blues and Dramatic Theme are amazing! They could easily fit in OBC. The Crying Song and The Nile Song have really good vocals. Green is The Colour has a really good piano track.

Seconded. I like Ibiza Bar and Main Theme too, though.

I've always loved "Animals" its one of my all time fav's.
It gives me that nostalgic blast from the era in my life when I was first introduced to P/F. The 1st time I heard it in the 70's I thought it was the perfect piece of music as one 43 min song,..(wish I could listen to it for the 1st time)

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - TilenHrovatic - 06-09-2011 10:21 AM

Division Bell. It's quite relaxing in these rainy days :)

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 06-09-2011 10:43 AM

Arno, I just listened to up the Khyber... I really disliked it. I agree its like a bluesy saucerful of secrets but honestly I really disliked a saucerful of secrets.
now for Main Theme..... (...6 minutes later...) hmmm Main theme isn't bad. Its very spacey and cool. I enjoyed the guitar part the best. Its almost eery with a weird sahara desert/middle eastern feel to it. I don't know how to describe it.
Quick silver..... oh my god! this is the song I hate he most. the intro is almost scary. I rarely listen through the whole thing (which is rare enough already because I don't listen to More very often). ok this is better than up the Khyber. I now declare this my least favorite Pink Floyd song. Honestly I absolutely dreded listening through this 7min song.... ugh.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 07-07-2011 11:14 AM

I've been listening to a lot of Obscured By Clouds lately. It's a real shame they didn't do more songs off the album live. I think some of the older songs in their concert set list could have been rotated out for a couple more songs off this particular album. I think some of them had the potential to be great in a live setting.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 07-07-2011 07:23 PM

Pink Floyd was always filled with lots of potential which they often fulfilled but theres a few 'shames' out there, the biggest being the break up and the problems between the members but ya they should have done some of OBC during PULSE! That would have been amazing

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - floyd91 - 07-08-2011 12:40 PM

Darkside and the wall

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 07-08-2011 07:02 PM

Those are their two most highly rated albums I believe, or at least their most known albums

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - russian - 07-14-2011 01:29 PM

meddle is my current favorite pf album(in fact its my favorite album ever!). it really shows what pink floyd is all about.

what do you mean by 'it really shows what Pink Floyd is all about'?

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 07-14-2011 05:47 PM

I think he means in his opinion it best shows off what made Pink Floyd great. It has all the elements of what made Pink Floyd a legendary band.

At least, that's what I think he was aiming for.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - blue_ember - 07-14-2011 07:59 PM

I see, hm well I guess it kinda does. Ifyou looked into it deeper maybe you'd find more aspects of their style. I think if it does or even if it doesn't it would make sense because that was their progrssive album into their golden age

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Arno Sluismans - 07-15-2011 03:08 AM

Meddle's B-side is aesthetic perfection.

well, if u ask me the whole album is perfect. one of these days=a classic pf instrumental with killer rhythm, a pillow of wind=such a warm song with beautiful slide guitar, fearless=such an awesome riff and great singing too, san tropez=another warm jazzy song with a great slide guitar and keyboard solos, seamus=one of the finest blues songs in pink floyds inventory, and echoes=obvious, everything is great about echoes!

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - IncurableTyrant94 - 09-14-2011 10:08 AM

A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and Atom Heart Mother. I thoroughly enjoy Alan's Psychadelic Breakfast and Dogs Of War.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - motherfore - 09-29-2011 06:32 PM

Ummugumma(Experiments and a live album whats better?) Atom Heart Mother and More. Sure DSOTM and The Wall are great...but their drove into the ground to much and get to much attention. Grantchester Meadows, Fat Old Sun, and The Nile Song would all be great for the radio. Well...thats my opinion.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 10-04-2011 07:13 AM

Right now, I've been listening to The Dark Side of the Moon a lot. For me, the albums come in cycles. I'll listen to one for a while, put that down and listen to another one, put that one down and listen to something else. I try not to overdo it, because I don't want to find myself tiring of their music.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - quicksilver - 10-04-2011 08:49 AM

Much like Lady Floydian, I listen in cycles. This past weekend it was Momentary Lapse & Delicate Sound of Thunder. This week I feel the need to get back in my comfort zone, which is Obscured by Clouds.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 10-04-2011 10:26 AM

I haven't listened to Delicate Sound of Thunder in a while. I might spin that one next. I also always listen to the vinyl when I'm home. The mp3s are strictly for when I'm not at home and have to rely on my iPod.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - smithwilliam12 - 10-21-2011 12:09 AM

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - PuttinOnTheRitz - 10-21-2011 06:40 AM

I've been listening to The Piper at the Gates of Dawn quite a bit recently.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Joe - 10-22-2011 03:53 AM

Me too. Right now, it's the early singles and PATGoD.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Lady Floydian - 10-23-2011 09:56 AM

Animals. I haven't listened to the whole thing in its entirety in a while, so I put the vinyl on a couple days ago.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - emonerd826 - 10-23-2011 11:16 AM

Meddle and Piper at the moment.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Joe - 10-23-2011 01:10 PM

Piper, ASoS, OBC and Ummagumma.

Wish You Were Here. The vinyl is playing as I type. The weather sucks, so it's a good day to stay inside and listen to music.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Viva Ze Bool - 12-26-2012 10:08 AM

Favourite album is currently Animals. But actually my favourite 'albums' to listen to are the mixes I did myself. Now, as a new member, I expect to be beaten to a pulp (on a Saturday Night ooooooh babe) for not listening to the albums as they were intended to be heard, but hey. I got frustrated by the latest "best of Pink Floyd" thing so I made my own. 6 hours long, but how do you trim a band like Pink Floyd down to 2 discs?

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - moonySK - 02-03-2013 11:00 AM

I just ordered Doug Sax edition of ATOM HEART MOTHER...i'm finally possessed by that masterpiece! Every second of the title track is like heaven to me... quiet IF makes me cry every time I listen to it, SUMMER 68 sounds very nice and FAT OLD SUN - what can I say...just listen and feel the breeze of city twilight...the bell is ringing...and then - waterdrops falling down, and ALAN'S PSYCHEDELIC BREAKFAST began.

BRAINWASHING!

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Arno Sluismans - 02-04-2013 02:04 AM

It currently is Animals. Every bit of it is absolutely fantastic in my eyes.

The Dark Side of the Moon. I had stopped listening to it for a while because I didn't want to wear myself out on it, and putting it on for the first time in months.....made me realize why I fell in love with it to begin with.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - Gongora - 02-06-2013 07:39 PM

Meddle.

I think I never paid much attention to it, (besides from Echoes, of course), but it's a great album, inside my top ten, for sure. :D

(Of course The Final Cut and Ummagumma are not on my top ten, lol)

Shine On! ;)

Obscured by Clouds:

This is the record I turn to when things get a bit crazy in my life. A great collection of songs that showcase the bands unique talent.

RE: What Pink Floyd album is your current favorite? - TheBeatlesPkmnFan42 - 02-28-2013 06:42 PM

I've been in a tie with The Wall and A Momentary Lapse of Reason for a while now. I love all 14 of their studio albums to death, but those two are the ones I listen to the most.

EDIT: I may as well mention that I have a playlist on my iPod with all 14 of their studio albums in order, and I'm listening to it right now. I feel like listening to all their albums for some reason. I'm currently on The Narrow Way (Part 3) from Ummagumma.

Burning Bridges has been known to bring my blood pressure down when I'm feeling a bit angry or upset about something. It's a very soothing, calming song.

Favorite Album - Elijah - 03-02-2013 05:53 PM

The album I'm listening to the most of is Wish You Were Here right now.
But my all time favorite is The Wall.

The story it tells through the music is one of the most amazing things Iv'e experienced musically.

Songs tell stories and people do that through music. But the genius that is Pink Floyd took a whole 28 song album and made every song form into one story, crafted so well, they could create a movie out of it.

Each time I listen, I discover something new. I love Pink Floyd.

All time fave: Wish You Were Here

Current fave: Atom Heart Mother has really been growing on me. Animals is always kind of in the rotation though, definitely second favorite.

I need to go back and try Meddle again though, I've listened to it a few times, but have never had a period of time where it really grew on me. Maybe I'm transitioning right now, haha
