I've been wanting to get a guitar, I recently broke my leg in a motorcycle accident with a steel plate and 9 screws. I'm stuck in bed for 4 more months I'm estimating. I don't want to learn tabs or notes or have any outside influences on how I play I strictly want to expeirement in my room stuck in bed. Anyone have suggestions on what kind of guitar to get? I know Ebay sells starter kits with electric guitar, a small 10 watt amp n all. Probably junk, but I'm strictly needing something to occupy my time and love music. Any suggestions on what to start with? Thnx -willie

Obviously, a starter kit is the cheapest and most convenient way to go. But, my philosophy is: why pay about $200 for something that you're just gonna replace later. I'd rather save up, and get the guitar I really wanted. And that's exactly what I did. Now or later, take your pick. :upside:

Oohh... that sucks. Get well soon.

I would reccomend an OLP Musicman endorsed guitar for electric. They are awesome guitars - nice sound, nice action, and also cheap.

Or if you want to mess around with an acoustic/electric, Ibanez makes a nice cheap acoustic electric. That way you dont' have to plug it in and hobble around, messing with the knobs if you don't want to.

You make it sound like he'll play for 4 months, and then quit. He'll have that guitar for the rest of his life. But I do see what you're saying. Maybe I should reword it: Get a non-expensive guitar now, and if you really like playing, get something better. :)

Just get a cheap acoustic from a pawn-shop. Tune it or don't tune it or tune it whacky. When you're ready buy a Robert Johnson cd to play along to.

i say get an acoustic and teach yourself by ear. once your out of bed go get an electric and trust me, you'll have already had a head start.

from acoustic strings to electric is easier to play, and if you've properly trained your ears you'll be able to play anything you want... in time.
