Hi all, which amp do you reccomend for floyds classic sounds such as The wall, Dark Side of the moon., etc.

Any all tube amp with a nice clean channel is what you are looking for

But gilmour didn't use tubes, he used solid state stuff, like the big muff.

My favorite amps are HiWatt and Mesa Boogie. I think Hiwatt is what you're looking for.

thats the funniest thing ive ever heard u obviiously dont know alot about his rig then

dave uses 3 hiwatt custom 100 heads into 3 wem 4x12 cabs wqith fane cresento speakers all his heads have at least 4 tubes each in them

note : dave has never ever used an amp without tubes in

even his old fender twin reverb deluxe used on the madcap laugh syd concert had tubes in

the big muff is a pedal not an amp and all pedals are true bypass not solid state. Even back in the ummuguma days his albeitier fuzz face was true bypass aswell.

As for hiwatt and mesa boogie if you cant afford them there are a few cheap vox's and fender twins going really cheap that might be more in your price range

You > Solid State > Digital
Gilmour > Tube > Anolog
Me > Soldi State Left Channel > Tube Right Channel > Analog

Actually I fully respect and like to promote digital modelling stuff. I've managed to achieve pretty good gilmour tones as well, but I feel digital technology has reached a good enough level to be able to model any solid state or tube amp.

That's just me though. I used to have a GFX-8 before my Toneworks. Any single other processor or amp just didn't satisfy me, while my gfx with it's crappy amp sim and digital distortion simply blowed me away every time.

The Vox Toneworks is better tho (and it has a valve in it :P).

it can sound maybe as good as but the punchyness... the volume, the way the amp reacts to your playing and your guitar...pedals can never be beaten

I prefer solid states as well. Tubes are hilariously outdated. They're a novelty. Greg Ginn of Black Flag actually prefers solid state because of the sharper tone. rocker

I have had decent results finding Dave's tones with a few different TUBE amps.Hiwatt, Sound City, Matamp, Fender. No comparison between tubes and SS. SS may be better for metal, but the good music always benefits from tubes,they feel great,unmistakable warmth and crunch. There have been a few ss amps that sound really good , Sunn, and Acoustic namely.

Thank-you for the replies. It may seem wierd, but I feel honored to play Pink Floyd and to be here. I ended up getting a Fender Roc Pro 1000 head and 4x12 Cab. Yes indeed, I do love my neighbors and their 7 dogs in one yard at 4:30am. What should my settings be? I hope I don't sound like a begginer, though I am kind of, I've been playing for 3 years now. But again, thank-you for all the replies, I really appreciate your help.

I wouldn't complain either hammers . Now as in bass 50 treble 40 mid 40 clean chanel gain 4 master volume 5, you mean 50 hrz for bass, 40hrz as treble, and 40 hrz for clean?

If your doing it in hrz just have it on 50 for everything

i just got an amp it has a bunch of preset songs from alot of different bands. the Pink Floyd songs are Comfortably Numb solo, SOYCD, and Run Like Hell. they sound pretty good.

Line 6 are ok not a great fan the spider amps are pretty good for About Face Gilmour tones.

ok, on what you said originaly, how do I get the 40's and 50's? The amp comes in tommorow. Sorry if Im annoying.
Theres controls on the front its just a case of going through them usually.

Yeh but if your doing things with frequency ranges it can really boost up your tone.

It can sometimes kill it too but most of the time it does its pupropse.

You can only really do it on digital amps but its bassically just the same as treble mid and bass on an anolog amp isnt really that much of an advatage.....

Is pretty much the same but theres little bits you cant really hear as compared to a parametric eq

Kinda of its more of a high and lows cut / dynamic eq.
