what are some songs or albums that can always put you in a good mood?
For me, I like for albums, Crossroads disc 4 from Eric Clapton, and some songs would be:
Like a Stone - Audiosalve
In the Dark - Billy Squier
Layla - Derek and the Dominos
Tangerine - Led Zeppelin
Green is the Colour - Pink Floyd
Dosed - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones (the only stones song I like)
Free Fallin' - Tom Petty
Follow - Breaking Benjamin

so, share your thoughts! :music:

The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
R.E.M. - Automatic For The People

A lot more. Just can't think right now.

Beauty and the Beast by David Bowie is the ultimate.

Nothing, really. I'm rarely happy.

No wonder you relate to Pink Floyd.

The Beatles' music does it for me, as well as the four post-Beatles careers.

Yes, it is usually very accurately related to how I am and feel. It's strange. Do I listen to it because I relate to it, or can I relate to it because I listen to it too much and it has consumed me? Don't worry, it's the first one.

Correction, some Beethoven makes me feel happy sometimes. But I have to be open to the idea of being somewhat spiritually uplifted.

Anything by Pink Floyd that's not depressing - such as One Of These Days, Echoes, Any Colour You Like, Terminal Frost, Astronomy Domine, Let There Be More Light - and, of course, Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict.

Led Zeppelin makes me feel pretty happy too.

- ImTheFloor - 07-10-2006 05:48 AM

The Beach Boys.
:)

- Echoes73 - 07-10-2006 08:15 AM

lotta songs that make me happy but to name a few

hendrix - dolly dagger
floyd - us and them, hey you
focus - hocus pocus

to many more to list

- Funky Dung - 07-10-2006 09:04 AM

All music and CDs I own make me happy. That's why I buy them, because I enjoy the music and whenever I'm down, I listen to Zappa (who makes me laugh), Floyd, Rush, R.E.M. and all of the other bands I listen to. :)

Love Shack - The B52's.

Yeah, I'm sorry too.
Oh, and Superstition by Stevie Wonder.
The Beach Boys is rather happy-go-lucky too.

Yes. Strange choice.
Though I think "Don`t Leave Me Now" tops it for bleakness.

Mind you, depressing songs, films etc. can often have an up-beat effect on an audience. The idea of a catharsis - ie a purging of the emotions - through tragedy, goes back to Aristotle.
In Aristotle, the function of tragedy is to enlighten us, to take us on a quest, whose fruits bring us pleasure because we not only take a delight in learning, but also because we gain some knowledge of both ourselves and the world, and hence are empowered.

Shakespearean actors often leave the stage after playing a tragedy like King Lear or Macbeth on a real high. Playing comedy often has the opposite effect...so many comedians, ironically, suffer from depression.

It`s official then, Roger Waters makes you feel good!!! Mind you, I don`t exactly burst out laughing listening to some of his stuff.

- Morglor9 - 07-10-2006 10:38 AM

I find that I can only listen to the Beach Boys if I'm happy-ish to begin with. If I'm not, it just ends up annoying me because it's too happy, like that overly happy person at work or school that pisses everyone off.

- FreshBrains - 07-10-2006 10:40 AM

On the contrary, I often broke into happy dancing while listening to The Fletcher Memorial Home. (Well, technically it isn't a Waters solo album, but it may as well be.)

- The Revelator - 07-10-2006 03:37 PM

in the aeroplane over the sea - neutral milk hotel
[untitled] - neutral milk hotel, what a fun song!
12:51 - the strokes
Alone, Together - the strokes
Your Southern Can Is Mine - the White Stripes version of the song
Ballad of Teenage Queen - Johnny Cash

tons more

shes got it, and its not just the lyrics that make a song for me its usually guitar riffs and melody

anything by Minus the Bear, espeicially Minus the Bear - Hey, Wanna Throw Up? Get Me Naked.
Also:
The Police - Canary In a Coalmine
The Police - Sychronicty II
Chemical Brothers - Let Forever Be
Gorillaz - Dare
My Bloody Valentine - Soon
Slowdive - Shine (even though all their songs have kind of a melancholy undertone, this song makes me feel as warm as the song title should)

I can understand Hey You. If your happy when you listen to it, you will feel worse, but since it is so good, listening to it while depressed helps you feel better somehow, at least for me.

yeah I dont like people like that. I dont mind people being nice, but when they're too nice I sometimes just want to poke them with sharp sticks. Like once, when someone introduced me to a cashier at the movie theatre... :Oo:

Wow. Really? All of those songs are a bit depressing to me. :(

for me is John Lennons Imagine

- The Revelator - 07-12-2006 01:42 PM

You and Whose Army by Radiohead is the only "depressing" song that makes me happy

something about making an amazing last stand in such an epic song just makes me want to cry happy tears. very powerful

- Sadie - 07-12-2006 01:56 PM

Beatles music. Except for some Lennon songs which depress me. Queen's music also makes me happy. Except for some songs which depress me.

:p

- FarAwayLaughter - 07-12-2006 07:18 PM

Yeah, Beatles music puts me in a good mood as well.

- DeltaOfVenus - 07-12-2006 07:27 PM

"Walking On The Sun" by Smash Mouth is a good one for me. A great song to exercise to also. "Love Me Two Times" by the Doors. "New York, New York" by Frankie. Those are the only ones I can think of now. I usually don't like "happy" music though. I prefer to be a pessimistic-cynical nihilist. Now, THAT makes me happy. glare

They Might Be Giants, specifically their children's music.

I know I commented in another thread recently that there's just something about reggae music that makes me feel happy and carefree. It kinda makes me step it down a notch and realigns my whole physical and mental being into the same groove... in groove with the world too... a very peaceful feeling.

On the flip side, most jazz music makes me feel nervous and frazzled... it's like sensory overload or something... it just does something to my central nervous system that does not agree with me. I do, however, love a lot of jazz-influenced music... but it's gotta have some regular type of beat to it.

My brother and I just had this conversation TODAY, as a matter of fact, and he feels exactly like I do about both genres.

Pink Floyd puts me in a great mood...

and some Blues/rock from the 70's, 80's...

RE: Happy music - what music puts you in a good mood? - n3wb0rn - 08-16-2008 07:44 AM

Early Beatles albums (up to Revolver, for whatever reason their later stuff makes me bummed out at times), bubblegum pop I enjoy (Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Vanessa Hudgens, etc.), Sparks and Queen both have that weird "happiness" about them in many songs. The Who as well, so many good memories with the band that they just cheer me up a lot. The Fratellis and Arctic Monkeys both, definitely Flight of the Conchords... The Elected, Blur...

Belle & Sebastian can cheer me up on the worst of days.

RE: Happy music - what music puts you in a good mood? - Parsifal - 08-16-2008 07:51 AM

Hot Rats, Sheik Yerbouti and early Mothers albums.

RE: Happy music - what music puts you in a good mood? - You CAN Avoid the Floyd - 08-16-2008 08:45 AM

Well, a lot of Who (especially "Baba O'Riley"), and a lot of Syd Barret Floyd put me in a good mood. As well as "Slither" by Velvet Revolver for some reason, it makes me jump around like a maniac! A lot of Bob Dylan too. Pretty much any Rolling Stones song make me happy. And there's this italo disco performer that me and my friend listen to named Fancy... Look him up on YouTube, it's quite... different! He does songs like "Lady of Ice", "Slice Me Nice", "Chinese Eyes", and some other stuff. Those put me in a good mood ESPECIALLY LADY OF ICE!

Isn't that original by Guns 'N Roses? (I know Velvet Revolver is Guns without Axl but... Think I prefer the Guns version) upsidedown

RE: Happy music - what music puts you in a good mood? - IbanezIsTheColour - 08-16-2008 12:50 PM

-"Send Me On My Way" by Rusted Root
-A lot of Matt Costa, especially "Mr. Pitiful" (that piano part Wub)
-Some Jack Johnson, especially "Upside Down" (happiest song ever?)
-Keep it Together by Guster
-Belle & Sebastian
-Some Bob Marley songs
-A few songs by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
-A few Smash Mouth songs, because I used to love them when I was younger

There's definitely more, but that's the main stuff. I wouldn't really consider what I listed in the first post "happy music" anymore...
