I love The Division Bell!! I can't understand why so many people dislike it and say it's not Pink Floyd at all, to me it's the more floydian album since Animals, it surely sounds a lot more Pink Floyd than The Wall and The Final Cut. The only thing that's missing is of course Roger's lyrics, wich could have made them even better, but even without them it has an interesting concept, and by the way very floydian.

I agree! One reason why it sounds more like PF to me than any album since Animals is that it was the first album since Animals to be made as a band--in other words, where the members of PF do most of the playing. The Wall and AMLOR had huge numbers of studio musicians, and the musical style of TFC meant that it was mostly Roger and the keyboard players.

RE: The Division Bell? Why not liked?
Not one of my favorites at all, but I don't hate it, either. The background singers aggravate me, but they aggravate me on Rog's solo albums, too. Marooned is nice, I really like Wearing The Inside Out. Dave has a pleasant voice and is a brilliant guitarist, but I think generally, on both Sorrow and The Division Bell, his lyrics try to hard. He's really trying to be intellectual and deep. Why is it that he seems so much more natural and gifted lyrically on his solo works? Well, I'd say he's trying to sound like Roger. Oh, and I'm just gonna get this outta the way: "Take It Back" is easily the best song on the record lyrically, and one of my favorite songs under the PF title of all time.
Anyway, he goes are you into S&M? I go, Oh, right... Could you like just picture me in like a leather teddy?
Yeah right, hurt me, hurt me... I'm sure! No way! He was like freaking me out... He called me a beastie... That's 'cause like he was totally blitzed! He goes like, bag your face!

I think there's a general census among some Floyd fans that after "The Final Cut", Pink Floyd ceased to exist, and became 'David & Friends'.
Now before fifty of you jump on me, let me just say that I like "The Division Bell". It doesn't touch "Wish You Were Here", "Animals", or "Dark Side Of The Moon", but there's something about it that kind of draws you in. "Marooned" is one of my favorite instrumentals by Pink Floyd (it makes me cry).
"High Hopes", "What Do You Want From Me", and "Take It Back" are all hidden gems.
but what you've got means such a lot to me

No, I think such fans are minority - though still considerable group considering how huge fanbase Floyd has
That's anyway very ridiculous stand. Roger was one man and not even near the importance Syd was in his reign. In fact one might have point if said that after Syd there was no Pink Floyd with him writing 90 % of their material (and rest copied his style) and naming the band. More like new band formed by members of Pink Floyd stole its name
Roger wasn't even near that. Sure, he wrote all the lyrics during DSotM-TFC era. Uhh, so? Unless you start to argue they weren't Floyd in ASOS-OBC period that point is null. Band isn't defined by who wrote the lyrics. Tom Sawyer's lyrics were written by non-member of Rush - is the song less Rush then? No.
Most of the people got into Floyd and loved it because of the music anyway (though not me, heh) and this is something I've learned over the years. And music was always (minus TFC and AMLOR) band project. Dave put it nicely that most of the music wasn't before Animals written by him. On the contrary, Dave & Rick were the music writing team, Roger then went off and wrote lyrics over the music. And often Roger wrote the words to melodies of either Dave or Rick meaning they had indirect impact on them too (Comfortably Numb's words were written into Dave's haunting melody and WYWH's lyrics were reworked to Dave's riff).
The Division Bell is most Floyd sounding album since Animals. It has ALL trademarks of the band's music and playing. There's no way one can write is as not Floyd AND include TFC as Floyd which doesn't sound Floyd at all.
If TFC 3 man Floyd is considered as Floyd (which doesn't even sound like PF) then why TDB 3 man Floyd can't be (which sounds like PF)?

Wow, there must be at least three good thread topics in this post. Let me summarize. Your following point to answering the post you quoted is far more outlandish than the quote itself. Pink Floyd's best material was written about Syd rather than by him. (imho ) One song not penned by Neil Peart compared to the Floyd catalog doesn't a point make and I think the best thing Syd ever did was name the band. The Floyd unlike all but a few other bands was a evolutionary thing, no matter who was writing the lyrics.
Oh yea, I really like TDB.
And now the final solution can be applied.
