I figured that instead of making 50 million current events topic, I should make one, and people can post anything that's going on in this topic for people to reflect on/discuss. If we could keep this thread relatively active, it could stay near the top. I'm gonna try to post new things pretty frequently, but I completely encourage other people to post as well!

Massacre at Fort Hood

Last week, Major Hasan, a military psychiatrist, opened fire on the military base, after learning of being sent to Afghanistan. He's killed (as of recently) nearly 15 people, and injured double that.

In my Islamic Traditions class the other day, we were talking about how a number people are focusing on the fact that he's a Muslim, which really had nothing to do with why he opened fire (he was obviously completely nuts) I mean, if you were sitting there, listening to the kinds of things that he was listening to, I would start to get a little insane, too. Not saying that a sane response to that would be to pick up a gun, and kill people, but I can understand why, in a profession like that, a person might start to deteriorate, mentally. Also from a couple of articles I've read, and seen, this is bringing a lot of un-needed attention to the Muslim community, in a post-September 11th world that's already weary of them. What doesn't help the cause at all though, is how before the rampage he shouted "Allahu Ackbar" (a phrase meaning "God is Great) But it's unfortunate, to me, that the fact that he's a Muslim is being focused so much upon, when it has little to nothing to do with why he actually did this.

DC Sniper Executed

John Allen Muhammad, one of the two snipers involved with the spree in 2002 was executed on November 10th, at around 9PM EST. He was executed by Lethal Injection. There were many people present to witness his execution. The first of the three drugs was administered at 9:06, and he was pronounced dead at 9:11 PM. He declined to make a final statement.

Carrie Prejean threatens to walk-off Larry King Live

Last Tuesday, while discussing her new book Still Standing, Carrie Prejean threatened to walk off Larry King live, after accusing the host of being inappropriate for questioning her about why she chose to settle on the charges she filed against the pageant she didn't win on the grounds of "religious discrimination." Prejean kept insisting that the terms of the settlement were confidential and she couldn't discuss them. When Larry kept trying to specify that he wasn't asking the specific terms, but rather WHY she chose to settle, she kept repeating that the 'terms were confidential.' When King tried to change the subject by taking a caller, Prejean, who was doing the interview via satellite took her mic off, and just sat there, apparently, because King had violated an agreement they was made not to take callers.

So yeah, not only is Prejean a total moron, but in her new book, she talks about how she's been "Palinized" and how she believes there is an "extreme double standard for conservative women." in that they're fair game for liberals to trash. She claims that if Hannity or O'Reilly said some of the things about Sotomayor, or Michelle Obama that Olbermann has said about conservatives that they would be off the air.

So question..why is this moron still relevant? Why are people giving her air time still? She's 22 years old, she's a complete tool, and a moron. Also, not to sound mean, but she's a freakin' beauty pageant contestant, since when do we give a ffuck about her political beliefs?

Houston elects first openly-gay(lesbian) mayor.

Houston, Texas (CNN) -- Annise Parker made history Saturday as Houston's first openly gay mayor.

Parker, who served five years as city controller, beat former city attorney Gene Locke with 53.6 percent of the vote in a runoff election.

Both are Democrats who faced off for the second time because neither emerged with more than 50 percent of the vote in the November 3 election.

A man, now 54, in Florida was exonerated, by DNA findings, after spending 35 years in prison on charges of kidnapping and raping a nine-year-old boy in 1974. Despite spending almost half his life in prison, he says he's not angry, because he has the lord.

Chris Henry, football player for the Cincinnati Bengals, died after falling from the bed of a moving pickup truck after a fight with his fiancee (re: future wife). He died at 6:36 am on Thursday.

The 26-year-old receiver played for the Bengals for five seasons but was on the injured reserve list after suffering a dislocated forearm during a November 8 game against the Baltimore Ravens. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Henry caught 12 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns in eight games before being hurt.

About Ft.Hood, the fact that he gave all his belongings away tells me he wasn't "nuts", but a normal muslim that thinks there going to heaven by killing or blowing up. Anyone that know these "people" are going to do this & don't stop them is guilty of murder also. I'm sure there are some good muslims, but till I hear them publically denounce this stupid farce the extremeists believe in there isn't any. Until that time I wouldn't even ride in a radio flyer with one. That Islamic Tradition class sounds like something The Three Stooges (Reed, Pelosi & Obama) would go for.

It was actually a really interesting class, haha. =(
