Dave all the way!

You have to remember that there would be no Gilmour/Floyd without Barrett to start. In the same respect, there would also be no Barrett without Gilmour because Dave actually taught Syd how to play guitar when they stayed in Francebefre Floyd existed. rocker

Quote:What are you talking about? The Devision Bell was awesome!
Quote:what you talking bout division bell was ace
Gilmour911

I find it very interesting that both of you used the word WAS in these sentences. Oh, and we're talking about TDB not being up to Pink Floyd standards. (and cheesy IMHO)

Quote:Syd wrote good lyrics, but they were a little too childish and pop. Both David and obviously Roger were much better at writing lyrics

Wrong!

Quote:With all due respect to the people who went out and bought those records, they are just rubbish. Particularly The Division Bell; it's just nonsense from beginning to end. Eric Stewart of 10cc told me how he got a phone call from Dave Gilmour where Dave said, "We're trying to make a new record, and we need a concept. Got any ideas?" It was funny, and it really pissed me off at the time. It pissed me off that no one saw through any of that. But I think history is starting to show that none of that stuff is really lasting. The last record was kind of pure ''Spinal Tap.'' Dave got his new wife to write lyrics!

Roger Waters
Quote:Dave is (or was) of course a better GUITARIST than Syd, now songwritingwise that would be another thing

Exactly!

I've also heard Roger say that for Ummagumma studio album Dave asked Roger to write the lyrics for him on The Narrow Way. Roger simply said no, but I have a feeling Dave "borrowed" lyrical "ideas" from somebody.

And we all know that on TDB Dave got help from anybody he could (pathetic). I might listen to it if Dave took it upon himself with Rick. (then again, I wouldn't :sleepy: )

P.S. I do not hate Dave. In fact I love all 5 Members and Pink Floyd 1979 and before.

Quote:It's good, but Gilmour's music is just more musical, and more original.

I don't think I agree with this either. TPATGOD couldn't be more original IMO.

I do think some of you need to back up your statements and opinions with a little more research or knowledge.

Gilmour is more talented but Syd was more creative. They are equal in my opinion.

MY GOD!

51-4...I think David is the greatest, but Syd isn't THAT much worse. He was very innovative.

This is purely a guitar mesg.board right?
So, my vote for Dave still stands.
He is technically lightyears ahead.
He used to teach Syd Stones licks in their lunchbreaks, at Cambridge Tech, BEFORE Floyd were formed.
Gilmour has said that, on hearing "Piper" he heard guitar licks that he KNEW came from him!!

Creatively,as a song-writer, it has to be Syd.
Even Roger has to work at it, but with Syd, the songs just fell out of him, effortlessly.
