The topic is about a specific album, there are plenty of "top whatever" lists on the forums. Do a search and check 'em out.

And now the final solution can be applied.

RE: Favourite Track from "David Gilmour" - 1978
You think so? I think Kimmy Page has done very good guitar work including having an influence on the greatest rock songs in history (voted, and is true) (Stairway to heaven, would be nothing without the guitar work) but on the other hand theres Comfortably numb which has the greatest guitar solo ever (also voted, also very true). I think Gilmore is amazing because he's done the whole nine yards with a big thanks to his blues influence. Although Page didn't have much of a secondary influence as gilmore he was a great song writer and knew his way around a guitar. Dont you think they both deserve the title? I can't chose between them
ok sorry cevor.

It's Gilmour, with a U.

Stairway To Heaven is awful, and no I don't think they both deserve the title. Jimmy Page is in the Top 10 guitarists in my book, but not in the Top 5. That honor goes to Hendrix, Allman, Vaughan, Clapton, and then David.

@Lady Floydian: I like how you state your opinions as facts.

@blue_ember: You have a very strong point, but it is not fully relevant. David Gilmour indeed has some more trouble with "working a way around the guitar" than other song-writers, but that doesn't make him a worse guitarist. In fact, if anything, it makes him a better guitarist. Saying Page is better because he can work without the guitar, is like saying that Gilmour is better because he plays a fine sax, too.

In what way am I stating my opinion as facts? Do I need to constantly type IMO for people to figure out that I'm not posting someone else's opinion, but rather my own? I shouldn't have to constantly qualify every single thing I type.

Good point. but remember were talking about who is a better guitarist not who is a better musician. I think Gilmour is a better musician because of his diversity (like the sax) and all the styl changes hes made but on the other hand Page sure had the great idea of using a chello bow on a guitar! Now that was interesting to see! So just on the guitar I think it could go either way, they both set records and both had famous songs and solos. Personally Gilmour is better because of the amout of amazing music he's written while Jimmy has written great stuff but not as much as Gilmour (maybe thats just because I havn't heard as much Zeppelin :P)
So just to stay on topic I think Comfortably numb is the best guitar solo ever :) haha and from david gilmour I think cry from the street is pretty awesome.

I know that's what the discussion is about; that was the only point I was trying to make. Your previous post would have been more relevant to a "who is the better musician?" discussion. ;)

Also, I totally agree about Comfortably Numb. Wasn't it voted to be the best Fender guitar solo ever, some time ago?

Dave was voted best Fender player from what I remember. C. Numb was voted best solo in a Guitar player magazine who's name eludes me at the moment.

Rolling stone magazine? I think that was the one were C numb was voted for its solo
Here is an unreliable link to the rolling stone magazine's page about it. I don't think its legit though first fo all its very short and very broad and it says Jimmy Hendrix wrote Voodoo "Chile" because im pretty sure tis voodoo Child. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/h...http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/hotel-california-voted-best-guitar-sol
And here is yet another list showing completely diffrent results. C numb as #4 and stairway to heaven as #1. http://latesthitsonvideo.blogspot.com/20...http://latesthitsonvideo.blogspot.com/2009/03/100-best-guitar-solos-accordi |

and a third website with C numb not even in the top 100.http://stereogum.com/10114/rolling_stones_100_greatest_guitar_songs_of_all_ti/list/ |

wow the internet is being unreliable!
