If there's ever been a band more conscientious about their music and how it's "heard" by the fans ........please name one.

By design Pink Floyd has largley reamained a faceless band. When you think of other pillars of rock music coming out of that era, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Queen, these were bands who very much welcomed the adoration and attention that came with being famous. Pink Floyd never did. They had a vision of how their music should sound and they have gone beyond what anyone's expectations should be. I was fortunate enough to see them in '87 & '94 and can honestly say that as awesome as that was, I respect them even more now for how they're handling their back catalog. A band like Pink Floyd does not need to spend countless hours & money re-mixing and re-packaging all their old records......right? they're millionares.

The fact that they are, is the ultimate respect that a band and its members can give the fans. Thank you!

Death Grips gave out their first album for free. Their next one was not for free, but it was really cheap. They're a really consistent clear and honest band.

I wonder how much of this is due to Alan Parsons? PF has always been about the sound quality (one of the main reasons I love the band so much). They also, as you stated, have made sure as best they can to stay out of the limelight and let the music speak for itself. Thus their reluctance to make music videos that weren't mainly live clips of the band (but again, those were in the later years). The movie The Wall was originally suppose to be concert footage but the video quality of those shows ended up being so poor, they rushed to create the movie we all know now.

But PF was never about being big and famous, hell, they actually achieved what they were singing against if you consider the lyrics of Money.

Good point regarding Alan Parsons. This brings up another interesting facet of the band, that even extends to their solo material. They never hesitated to bring in outside personnel to help them achieve the desired sound they were looking for. Its probably most recognizable on The wall with Bob Ezrin and all the hired musician's. It really comes down to the band willing to share credit with others to achieve the ultimate goal. Not many other bands are willing to do that.

I very much doubt that Alan Parsons had much to do with the PF signature sound. He was an engineer on one album, albeit a good one, but that's all.

It's true that the band brought in help from outside when need be, they never gave away much credit though. Until, that is, Gilmour took the helm. He was much more generous, which has been misunderstood unfortunately.
