Agreed, the first one seems like a tasteful idea. How much would that one cost? How long would it take to build once the money was raised? How would you make the completion available for contributers to enjoy if they are not locaal to the area (Pictures online etc..)
giving info on those three questions would probably get you some interested in donating. I think that people that donate want to be assured that the money will be used in a good way and details about the project would help assure this.
I mean, a few people that can give $100 each would raise the money much faster than T-shirt sales alone.
I would be interested in donating if this seems a solid project, feel free to contact me at mcalldp@gmail.com should you want to discuss figures in private.

I also agree that this is a good idea now that Syd has passed
on. If I were to be assured that the money would be used soley for this project I'd be willing to give a good amount (probably some where between 100$ and 500$, maybe a thousand) to see this sculpture rise up. He deserves something truly truly great, beyond something simple, the first design is the perfect size and magnitude to show respect for such a great man.

When people walk by this sculpture they should not simply think to themselves "theres a nice piece of artwork, good sculpture", what they should think to themselves is "o wow!, what a unique object, wonder what it could possibly represent", some would recognize the name and say to themselves "I remember Syd, this suits him perfectly" while the ones who don't know who he was would say "he must have been quite an interesting person to deserve such a unique monument".

Although I cant say I agree with putting the Astral Piper name so big on the monument, it would put off other Syd fans (me included) and makes them seem almost pretentious. Why does there need to be any names at all? Why does credit have to be given to somebody? If I give money, I don't want my name out there, and I would expect others not to desicrate the monument with their names either. I want him to have a monument because I admire and appreciate everything he has done for this world, I simply want to pay my respects and I would deserve no comendation for it, and neither would anyone else.

Sorry if you think I feel to strongly about some things, but I want to see a monument for Syd from his fans as a whole, not just the people paying for it, I don't want it to be like just about every other public structure, just a way for somebody to call themselves a philanthropist and get their name out there.

If my opinions contradict the aims of the people in charge of this sculpture then I guess I only have two options, try to organize a monument of my own, or to compose some kind of literature on him to show my respect, either way I'll do my part to help spread the knowledge and appreciation of Syd.
