I think a lot of his lyrics are nonsense. I respect him for the music revolution he helped start but I honestly can't relate to his lyrics. Although I haven't heard his solo works so I can't really give a complete opinion.

they make sense to a disturbed mind ^_^
Syd used many literary tools to show the state of his mind

another really good example is Bike from The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

The bike, of course, has some sort of significance that is hard to imagine, but I think that it possibly a referance to his mind
-I've got a bike
-You can ride it if you like
-It's got a basket
-A bell that rings
-And things to make it look good
-I'd give it to you if I could
-But I borrowed it

The cloak may be a symbol of his insanity
-I've got a cloak
-It's a bit of a joke
-There's a tear up the front
-It's red and black
-I've had it for months

The next verse may be about wanting everything to be predictable rather than the way his mind is working
-I know a room full of musical tunes
-Some rhyme
-Some ching
-Most of them are clockwork
-Let's go into the other room and make them work

I doubt if there're any hidden meaning or allusions to Syd's illness in 'Bike' whatsoever; I believe each verse means what it says on the surface.

everything has a purpose when written by an insane mind

Take no offense please but I think PF fans are prone to looking too deeply into Syd's lyrics. I don't think he was a great lyricist at all but do I love and respect him, yes, of course I do.
