I read on a Syd Barrett myspace that David Gilmour taught Syd how to play guitar. Is this true?

In the bio A Saucerful of Secrets it does state that Gilmour taught Syd some Stones licks while growing up together.

Dave doesn`t claim to have taught him everything, but says there were some things in Syd`s style that he knows came from him.

True. In an interview Dave said that he and Syd played guitar as teens together. Dave had better technique but Syd had more creativity...I think Dave also introduced the slide guitar to Syd.

Dave was the better guitarist when they were in school together and Syd definately picked up some of Dave's style - hence Dave being acused of copying Syd when he joined PF.
They helped each-other improve on guitar.

ye its true they used to play rolling stones licks during there lunch breaks at the cabridge art school this is were roger noticed syd and the floyd started its in nicks inside out book

As well, David also said that Syd had incredible song writing skills even at that early stage
