I am, but I do have the 3 that are thought of as the best 3 by people I know who have pretty much every note Young's ever played on disc e.g. my Uncle.

Yes, I agree. Would like to do that. Wise words indeed. Will "catch" many great CDs from the "water" as soon as I can afford to.

simps Wrote:Yes, it is often good to hear live bands play alternative versions of their songs, but in my experience PF songs tend to be perfect first time around on the albums and are best left unmeddled with. Prime example - Money on Pulse. Absolutely perfect on the studio original, but live without the same solidity of the bass line that was always the foundation of the song it falls apart at the seams. Great song though.
But Pink Floyd started out as a live band with many songs consisting of long improvisations. It is the ability of a band to improv with greatness and perfection every time that defines how great of a band they really are, not how perfect they can make an album in the studio sound after 100 or more takes patched together. Granted I consider their studio albums (i.e. Dark Side of the Moon) to be the best work of all time above any other band, the long spontaneous instrumentals in both their live and studio work is one part that I really love about PF.

Yes, fair point, Jintzey. I never disagreed with any of those principles. My view was simply that while pre-Dark Side PF were noted for their amazing extended improvisations (especially Interstellar Overdrive which used to sometimes last 40 mins before they made their first album), from Dark Side onwards they mostly made the kind of (concept) albums that sounded better as recorded in the studio than performed live. Couple of exceptions here and there.

pulse was different performances, yes>i have some bootleg shows from the ninety four tour, and ive seen setlits and they did not play dark side of the moon in its entirety very often>only a few Times, often at earls court>i also have a ninety four soundcheck where david sings 'shine on you crazy bastard' and 'up...and sideways...' straight from the soundboard also which is nice
