Do you guys think Waters would of tried to take over the band if Syd was still in it. Say he was in good condition too...
Everything still the same, just a fifth man ...
Personally, I think Waters had to much respect for Syd so I don't think he would..
K anyways

Of course, it's impossible to know what would have happened, if Syd hadn't lost it. I don't know, I guess I'd have to agree with you. Roger seems like he was always in awe of Syd. And, they had been friends since they were children. Maybe that's why he ended up writing a large majority of Pink Floyd's songs, based upon Syd's life and downfall. Roger loved Syd so much, that when Syd went crazy, the only way Roger could handle it, was to get all the pain out through writing.
I also think that that's one of the reasons why Roger and Dave never really got along well. Maybe Roger subconsciously resented Dave, simply because he wasn't Syd.

I agree with that as well, Roger has more respect for Syd than anyone else in the band. I thought his dedication of WYWH at Live 8 to Syd was touching, because Syd has meant a lot to Roger, especially being a topic for many of his songs.

Think about this...
Is it possible that if Syd hadn't lost it and stayed with the band, Roger would have tried to take control?
I think so.
If Syd had cleaned up and stayed healthy, then his songs wouldn't have been as good. His songs are so wonderful because they were written in a state of mind most people can only dream of. If he wasn't fixed on the drugs, then his music wouldn't have the same haunting qualities and it may not have appealed to anyone. Thus, they would have been a failing band with a lesser reputation and Roger probably would have tried to take over and make something of them anyway. Think about that.
