Hello
I just recently started listening to pink floyd, little over a week ago (and may I say -- it has marked its spot already amongst my top 3 favorite bands)
I'm listening now to a particular song -- Echoes from "Meddle"
and I'm curious about something, from about 11:30 - 14:15, there is a bird of some sort . . . making sounds
What kind of bird is it thats making the noises?
if anyone can send some work back regarding this, I would very much appreciate it
Much thanks,
-Matt

well here I am . . .
replying to myself
I was looking around, and one of their own members comments on it said so -- the seagull
yes, so it was a seagull. Well yes, I'm THAT distant from nature.
Hehe, well thanks anyways

isnt it supposed to be whales 'talking'? thats what i always thought it was, and i thought i heard it somewhere too.
I think he re-gifted and then he de-gifted and now he's using an upstairs invite as a springboard to a Super Bowl sex romp!

Actually , it's a guitar making those sounds. I believe that David Gilmour reversed the cables for his Wah-pedal (input to output, and vice-versa) and that was the sound he got.I guess it's suppoused to be whale song, that would make sense in the context of the song. Mabye an Albatross crying.
btw, those 'submarine sonar' sounds from the beginning of the song is actually Rick Wright playing his keyboard through a rotating speaker.

hi, me again!
I read from the official comments, from a floyd site -- that they were the sounds of seagulls. So I'm not sure what the entire deal may be with that
But anyhow, I have another question! I wish to know what instrument is at play in this song from about 15:00 to about 18:14 (actually, don't take those numbers so exactly -- my mp3 version may perhaps differ from the standard) .. well, actually, I'm probably not being that helpful -- because at about 15:00 it is hardly distinguishable -- so allow me to say instead, it is more "dynamic" in music terms, further on -- and quite so at about 15:10, when it starts picking up and creates a very soft and sweet sound)
If anyone has an idea, please say.
Thanks much,
-Matt

I don't know what you mean exactly. If you mean the deep swirling sound, then that's probably a bottle neck moved in circles (possibly on the bass guitar or a slowed-down electric guitar) with plenty of reverb or echo.
There's a few notes of what sound like an electric organ playing around then, or some keyboard instrument.
I'm pretty sure that there's also distorted guitar played with a violin bow on the low notes, possibly with a bottleneck which swoops up just before the last lot of vocals start.
