Im wondering, i mean, the main riff of echoes is releatively identical to the Phantom Of The Opera theme. Which came first. and was it Webber that wrote that, because if it was him it probably was Floyd that was the Original, but im not sure, i hope this isnt a stupid question, and if it is, im sorry.

Apparently Roger Waters realized that elements of The Phantom of the Opera were plagarised from Echoes, but decided that life was too short to bother following up with legal action. Something like that. I think it's in the essay that someone wrote here on the forum about Echoes.

Yeah. I like to think Roger at least managed to get back at him a little when he wrote It's A Miracle.

Yeah. Having recorded that, Rog. in interview has said, (I`m paraphrasing here)..."Christ I`ve assumed a lot about Lloyd-Webber`s stuff, without having really listened to it.".
While staying at a friend`s house, who had all the records, he checked them out. His conclusion being....
"I needn`t have worried after-all.....it was s.hit." :laugh:
No need to paraphrase, as I`ve just found the quote...here it is:-
"Andrew Lloyd Webber sickens me. He's in your face all the time and what he does is nonsense. It has no value. It is shallow, derivative rubbish, all of it, and it makes me very gloomy. Actually, I've never been to one of his shows but having put that slightly savage joke on the record, I though I'd better listen to some Andrew Lloyd Webber and I was staying in a rented house in America this summer and the people who owned the house had a whole bunch of his rubbish so I though I'd listen to Phantom Of The Opera and I put the record on and I was slightly apprehensive. I though, Christ, I hope this isn't good - or even mediocre. I was not disappointed. Phantom Of The Opera is absolutely ******* horrible from start to finish."

lol i cant wait to rub that in my girlfriends face. Shes nuts about webber and phantom of the opera, and i can totally piss her off now. lol

We Floyd fans know better, but Lloyd Webber's official spokesperson once said something to this effect:
'Mr. Webber denies being influenced by 'Echoes' and the composition which became the 'Phantom' theme pre-dates the Pink Floyd work.'

It's just a chromatic run (one half step difference per note. C# - C - B - Bb - A). It's been used a million times with various root notes, but it's VERY common regardless.
