Without knowledge of how to organize a convention or anyone to consult about such a thing, I don't really know what the best way to present a website for it would be. If there aren't enough people with the necessary skills willing to help, it's going to be quite difficult to actually put this idea into action.
you just need someone with money. i can front some cost if my busniess is plugged

Lets get Childhood's End there! Cevor rocks ( even though he's not in the band, he manages it. :) ) Also, go to these cities, in the Us part of the convention
New York
Austin
The Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame
Pittsburgh
Chicago
Only places I really know. Also, maybe you could get solo Floyd (Gilmour, Roger basically). Maybe the three floyd lineup David, Rick, Nick.

Hey all..
I read the very basics of this thread and if I didn't miss anything important I have to say that this is a great idea...
I have some suggestions..
-Pick a region to have each convention in and then pick a person responsible for organizing that region. If we make this all one big national thing then that would help with the advertising and getting people to buy tickets. In other words, let's say we had one in Buffalo for the Upstate New York region ... if we decided to have them all on one day we could call it the "Buffalo Regional Gathering of the National Pink Floyd Convention"...we could have a website where people put their zip code in and the site tells them where the closest regional convention is and helps them buy tickets and get a hotel room...stuff like that...
I volunteer myself for this Upstate New York region..
We pick a team to be the national organizers and organize it that way. The regional people work through the national people and the national people bank all the money.
- Get sponsors. National sponsors get a decent sized banner of theirs put up at every convention and then you offer regional sponsors as well. The national committee is responsible for the national sponsors and the regional organizers are responsible for getting some regional sponsors to help off set advertising costs. The only way this works is with major advertising and that would be the most expensive part.
- Pick one day and call it one big convention but broken up into regions like I said earlier. I think this would reduce the confusion about which region is when.
- Have PF tributes from each region play at the convention. Why not? It is a celebration of PF and another chance for the tributes to play for PF fans. The organizers would have to approve each band's set list so there is no doubling up on songs...but why not?
- I think encouraging the trading of bootlegs is illegal but we can't stop people from bringing stuff into the venue. I think we should sell vendor tables so that people that want to sell Floyd stuff can. These would be away from the stage area where the band would be. There would also be plenty of room for Floyd fans to get together and talk and trade "handshakes" around the vendor tables too.
I get like this when I hear an idea I really like. Like I said, if some of this was mentioned earlier I apologize..
I love this idea and I think we should shoot for Fall of 2008...

In the U. S. it would have to be NYC on the east coast and either Vegas or San Francisco on the west cost. S.F. & NY are the 2 arears that really embraced the music first in this country. There is also a huge fan base in those areas.

Now thats one idea, Dont go where floyd went during 80-81. The name of the convention shouldn't be cheesy and thus shouldn't include "Convention" in the title.

With all the comic book and sci-fi conventions out there, I don't see anything wrong with rock & roll conventions.
