While that is part of one of the rules, (be civil to other members), that is not the main role of a moderator. It is boring stuff, but merging topics, moving others, editing offensive posts and occasionally deleting multiple posts/topics are much more frequent. If you would be using modding powers to stop criticism, you would be abusing them to an extent. Criticism is fine in my eyes as long as it is civil and not offensive.

If I remember rightly, you asked to be a moderator within two days of joining, (mainly because you wanted to be one elsewhere, but a friend got into your account and ruined that, you see, I have a very good memory, unless that was someone else). I very much doubt you would be top of the list as there are others more likely to take on the role if they agreed.

I have on occasion offended people, but never intentionally. Always to spark an intelligent conversation, sometimes it just blows up and people read my posts the wrong way.

Andie, I think you are just fine. You do have to be able to take a stand on issues if necessary though. I think you always try to make everyone happy. I agree with Steve that being a moderator is a dull job, a thankless job and at times when you do take a stand on a position, there will certainly be some people that will criticize you. A moderator must be articulate and very, very careful not to overstep their authority and infringe on a members rights. If you ask "what rights?" perhaps you aren't cut out to be a moderator. True, that must be determined by the moderator, but that where a good moderator stands out. A moderator certainly has his/her opinions, however must be objective when looking at any post, situation, or member. I have not always agreed with Steve, but I must say, he is an excellent moderator.

I partially think being a mod, well a dull job, could be a healthy job in some ways. Its a bit of responsibility for people who don't have much.

i would because im the kinda person you would see helping some1 then besides critizizing others and i want to stop it on this website. trust me i hate ppl who target others for thier own enjoyment
Who doesn't believe that about themselves? Seriously, ever human has a sadistic bone in them, and we all enjoy targeting others. Most just don't realize it. Take a good look at all the big films at the box office and tell me what you think...

A sarcastic comment here, a correction or two there. Nothing wrong with that. It's when it gets nasty you need to step in. Most situations sort themselves out in time.

Anyway, I resent that comment about responsibility for those who don't have much. That might be in your case, but I have other responsibilities, activites and work that tie me up at least some of the time. You often see periods where one or more of us isn't around much, if at all. That's because we're busy elsewhere. You tend to see me here evenings and whenever I have days off, and even then it isn't guaranteed I'll visit, (sometimes even appearing to be logged in for hours, when in fact I have just forgotten to close the tab before going out). If I move to another more career oriented job soon, i will probably have much less free time, but this place can be a good stress reliever.

Steve, I think you misread what I was saying. What I was saying was that for people that don't mave many responsibilities moding must be nice. A bit of duties would sure be a good thing for me in the summer.

Well, even though this role could be taken as playing at responsibility, you do still get a lot of people sending you messages and you have to often trawl through a lot of guff trying to edit, (usually if reported or spotted as browsing), and I find merging some topics together. It's not fun, but I like things to be organised and together.

Anyway Painter, Piper and Prisoner, (must have missed your reply first time around), I seem to remember actually saying to you that the nominees are only based on other moderators recommendations, not what the board as a whole thinks. I certainly recall you mentioning you were hoping to be a moderator on your previous board until someone spoilt that for you. You join a new board and almost instantly ask me how to become a moderator. I may have just jumped the gun a little, but all signs were definately pointing at you thinking about becoming a mod.
