Sound Bytes, Effects, Noises, etc.
Hello Floydian musicians,
Let me apologize in advance if this has already been addressed here, but I could not find a post where it had been before.
Last week I joined up as the drummer with an up and coming PF tribute band. Sounded pretty dang good for 5 guys who never played together before :) I may be the drummer, but I also may be the "effects dude". Sounds cool to me, but I don't know where to start.
Now I have a couple of Floyd sound bytes here and there like Dark Side's "Roger the Hat Interview" and the soundscape from Division Bell that were included in the Treeful of Secrets vine that goes around from time to time. But I wondered where tribute bands get the effects to use in the shows. Ya know, like the bit at the beginning of Money, or some bits of the teacher from The Wall, or Animals animal noises, or plane noises from Learning To Fly. How do you guys do it? Or do you even do it? I suppose some parts could be left out? But if you use them, do you trigger it from samples, or do you somehow recreate them live? I can do the Roger scream, but I don't know if I can make the cash register sounds myself :)
Anyway, I may be jumping the gun here, but I want to be prepared. Thanks for any help, and don't forget, you are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today.

Most bands just rip the audio and cut into loops then the sound engineer will trigger them in sync with the visuals you can find alot of synced videos on http://www.echoeshub.com
other than that maybe just cut and edit the sample you want to use.

The group that I'm in (Echoes of Pink Floyd, formerly The Surrogate Band) makes every effort to create these ourself. That means we record our own voices speaking the lines for DSOTM, find our own Dogs and Sheep sounds, etc. I even recorded my baby daughter crying for the beginning of The Thin Ice! We do use a sampler and trigger it live from the stage (we used to make a sound guy do it, but they'd never get it quite right).
