Nah, Nick didn't write "Speak To Me", Roger did, But Nick got the writing credit as a gift.

Actually, ROGER says he wrote Speak to Me and gave the writing credit to Nick as a gift. Nick says that he assembled the track himself.

I've always tended to believe Nick's version of the story, seeing as giving away a songwriting credit is about the most un-Roger Waterish thing I could imagine.

Didn't Dave say Roger did it as well? hmm

I thought Nick's gift credit was for One Of These Days....

I've never heard anyone collaborating Roger's claim, but I'd be interested to hear of any Dave quotes that indicate he was right. Nick's version of the story is basically that he assembled the track himself--obviously, it's kind of a collage of the album's other tracks:

"{Speak to Me} was constructed from cross-fades of all the other pieces on the album, which I put together roughly at home and then finally assembled in the studios."

As for Nick's gift credit being for One Of Those Days, that song is credited to the whole group, so Roger really couldn't give the credit to Nick even if he wanted to for that one.

OOTD was deafinately a group effort. I remember Dave saying something like he was always encouraging Nick to contribute stuff because he was getting less royalties than the rest of them.
