RE: The Division Bell? Why not liked?
There are some tracks on TDB that I really enjoy but a lot of them are way too boring for me to sit through. Cluster One, a Great Day for Freedom, Lost for Words, and Take it Back are like watching paint dry.
I do believe that Rick's voice should have been used in at least 1/3 of the album instead he gets one song? Thats very dissapointing. That being said I think that Marooned, Coming Back to Life, and High Hopes are all beautiful in there own right.
Actually when I listen to High Hopes I get this weird shiver down my spine. I think its that I realize not only is it the masterpiece finale to the album but that its the finale to floyd work in general.

The only song I want to listen to on DB is Marooned. It kinda takes me back to pre 70's jammy Floyd, which is what I like the best anyway.
The rest I couldn't care less about.

Well I think it did get pretty big. Got #1 in the UK and the US and hit triple platinum in the US and sold over 12 million copies worldwide (info from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Division_Bell). I sure think its great! Listened to the whole thing all the way through today as a matter of fact ^^

Cluster One is divine indeed, in my opinion. To me, it says "Hey, do you hear these keyboards? Guess what, Rick's back!"
Else than that, the album is rather long and has quite much of the same. All the guitar solos are great, but often have a bit too many similarities, and some are very forced and uninspired. I think that's my main reason for not liking the album. That, and the few parts of the album that sound actually horrible to me (For instance, Keep Talking's lyrics, and Poles Apart in general).
Overall, I do like the album, and I listen to it on a pseudo-regular basis. But every time I listen to it, I get quite bored towards the end, which is something I don't even get when I listen to A Momentary Lapse of Reason.
Edit: LF is right, by the way. Sales are absolutely unrelated to an album's quality. Rather, they depend on how commercial the album is. There are exceptions to that, but hardly any.

You make a good point LF and Arno but theres a reason it got so popular. Even if an album gets popluar like that deosn't meen its a great record for everyone or a great record at all and just because a record didn't get big it doesnt mean it isnt good. I'm just saying that theres a point when it gets so big like that, that there must have been something good on the album that people liked. Honestly triple platinum is very big! I can't name any other album off the top of my head that did so good. But you gotta understand what i mean right?
