RE: The Division Bell? Why not liked?
I never said that Pink Floyd ceased to exist after "The Final Cut". After Roger left, you have to admit, their sound changed. For the better? I'm not sure. But they definately changed in an interesting way.
I don't love or hate post-Waters Floyd. I see it as simply a part of their evolution as a band. Like I said, post-Waters Floyd still managed to turn out beautiful work.
And yes, I absolutely acknowledge that David without Roger and Roger without David wouldn't have worked. The four of them (and five of them for that brief time) fed off of each other's creativity.
but what you've got means such a lot to me
Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett - January 6, 1946 - July 7, 2006
Richard William Wright - July 28, 1943 - September 15, 2008

Well, AMLOR really doesn't count due to its 80's production.
This actually was what I was arguing against. The Division Bell sounds like "classic" era Floyd. The sounds, the textures, everything is like on that period.
Even songwriting shows huge similarities. Wearing the Inside Out? Us and Them 2. Lost for Words? Quite like Wish You Were Here musically. What do you want from me recycles guitar part from Raise My Rent (from Dave's first solo album in 1978)!

Well, that says something about Roger leaving then, doesn't it?
Those albums were okay ways to end off the band.
Though "The Final Cut" would have been better.
I guess in a way they wanted to show that they didn't 'need' Roger to go on. And they proved themselves right...ish.
But yeah, I guess "PULSE" and "TDSOT" aren't really classified as albums. My bad

Oh, and I hate the Hawkings voice on Keep Talking, just for the record. It seems like an overt attempt to try to sound like "vintage Floyd". I think the album, which I do find quite good, would have been much better (as would AMLOR) if Dave had refrained from peppering it with those little obligatory textures to please the fans. I really think that Roger did a better job using those effects on his solo records.
Anyway, he goes are you into S&M? I go, Oh, right... Could you like just picture me in like a leather teddy?
Yeah right, hurt me, hurt me... I'm sure! No way! He was like freaking me out... He called me a beastie... That's 'cause like he was totally blitzed! He goes like, bag your face!

The Hawking's voice box is fantastic to me. But if you want to label some part of the song as obligatory it should be the Run Like Hell/Give Blood guitar licks that keep the song churning.
I do really like "Keep Talking" and that guitar technique is possibly one of the things I would change in the song.
The continuous dialog from "Billy" using similar vocoder or whatever Roger produces in Radio K.A.O.S. is good as well. But I do think both artists create musical and environmental atmospheres with audio and instrumental effects on their respective albums quite in the same traditions without adding them just because they are expected to.
