I think it's just going to be a few shows. He practically swore in an interview last year that he wouldn't keep touring this year.
But, anyway, I'm with you all the way: I'd MUCH rather hear new material. 6 months finally recording a new album would be much better spent than 6 more months on the road.
Let's face it people: the world could use a new album by Roger Waters much more than it could use the 11 millionth live version of ABITW pt. II.

You should be greatfull he wants to keep on touring and isnt retiring yet.
Its his life and hes doing what he is most happiest doing and if people still go to his shows then why stop.
From reading interviews with him, I'm not sure at all if it really is what he's happiest doing.
At any rate, we're going on 16 years with no new studio material from a great artist. I completely understand that it's his life, but hey, Pete Seeger is still putting out albums in his mid 80's and Roger Waters seemed to have stopped doing so in his early 50's. Neil Young and Bob Dylan are around the same age as Roger, and they are still putting out albums--good ones, too.
As a fan, I'm not really sure why I'm supposed to be "grateful" about Roger's transformation into a Pink Floyd greatest-hits machine, especially if his touring schedule makes recording new material unfeasible.

I would imagine that part of it is just the Waters paradigm. I mean, what else is left to say? With Rog, the music is somewhat ancillary compared to the message. What's changed since Amused to Death? We're still just a species amusing itself to death are we not?
Cara Ira took a lot of time. It does nothing for me, but it meant a lot to him and it took a lot of time and energy. Point being that he's not been a creative turtle. And let's be honest, at least for the over 40 crowd like myself, you don't create at the same pace as you age. This is especially true for a guy like Waters, who has already shared so much of his inner voice.
With his arsenal of material, I'll take the tour any time. I've seen him thrice and it's been great every time. I would love to see him one more time.

There's no doubt we all love Roger and would go see him again no matter what he performs. mabewa and my point was we'd prefer to see some new material. The world has no shortage of topic matter and I'd mention, Gilmour and The Eagle's releases as evidence that the over 50/60 crowd is still very creative. It's no slam on Roger, I'd just like to hear what he's thinking now rather than what he was thinking a decade and a half ago.
And now the final solution can be applied.

I've thought about this particular point before. I pretty much agree with you: Ca Ira took a lot of time, and we can't say that Roger hasn't been creative.
I'm just a bit frustrated, I guess. Like you, Ca Ira didn't mean anything to me (which is not to say that it it didn't mean something to others). A Roger tour is always great, but I find the almost exclusive focus on Floyd material a bit depressing: it's becoming like a nostalgia thing. Now, Roger is going to work on some kind of musical production of The Wall, which is another thing that means little to me (not big on musicals, and not big on The Wall, either). So, the prospect of another oldies tour basically reduces the possibility of what I really would be interested in: a new album.
Your points about Roger still being creative and the creative process changing as people age are all valid... but the one thing I disagree with is that he may not have much less to say. I mean, he's a political guy, and there have been so many huge events since ATD was released... I don't think he'll have any shortage for inspiration.
